The King Who Reigns
Guest speaker, 2026-05-10

… Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory? And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. It is only with the breaking of bread over dinner and the vanishing before their eyes that the disciples realize it is the risen Jesus they have been with all along. As they run back to tell their tale to the rest of the disciples, they find that Peter has now encountered him too. Luke then concludes his gospel writing. As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, Peace to you. But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit. And he said to them, Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself Touch me and see For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them Have you anything here to eat? …

04/19/26 The Next...: The Next Mass
Mike Schmitz, 2026-04-18 · Scripture reading

… that we thought he would be the one, but he was crucified. He died. The part that gets me is when they say, but some women have astounded us. They were at the tomb this morning. They saw that his body wasn't there. In fact, angels appeared to them. Then some of our group went there. They also didn't see his body. They said he resurrected. And I pause on this and say, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, you know? Like, it wasn't like they left before the women returned from the tomb. It wasn't like they left before Peter and John came back from the tomb. They had been told, this is the thing, they knew. They knew that Jesus had risen from the dead. Here's the question. If they knew, why are they walking seven miles? If they knew why are they leaving? And the text even says it. Jesus shows up and it said they stopped looking downcast. What are you talking about? We're talking about Jesus the Nazarene. …

Resurrection Gives You Wings
Levi Lusko, 2026-04-05

Oh, yeah, that's a real big problem compared to hell. And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded to them and all the scriptures the things concerning himself. Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and he indicated that he would have gone farther. But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is spent, far spent. And he went in to stay with them. Now it came to pass, as he sat at the table with them, that he took bread, blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they knew him and he vanished from their sight. Sneaky Jesus. And they said to one another, did not our hearts burn within us while he talked with us on the road and while he opened the scriptures to us? If your heart is cold today, beloved, the answer is to let Jesus come alive to you anew through the scriptures. …

David Platt Honors His Mentor
David Platt, 2025-12-24

… oh foolish ones slow of heart to believe all of the prophets have spoken was it not necessary that the christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory and beginning with moses and all the prophets he interpreted to them and all the scriptures the things concerning himself so they drew near to the village where they were going to which they were going he acted as if he were going further but they urged him strongly saying stay with us for it's toward evening and The day is now far spent. So he went in to stay with them. When he was at the table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight. They said to each other, Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures? And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem, And they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, saying, The Lord has risen indeed and has appeared to Simon. …

… and they did not recognize him. So when they were discouraged, then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them the things written about himself in all the scriptures. Thanks for reading those words out loud. This includes Genesis through Malachi. It's as if Jesus was opening the Old Testament saying, oh, I was there. That was me. There in the burning bush, there with Abram, there next to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the burning and fiery furnace. Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the scriptures, read it with me, the things concerning himself. Oh, that was me. No, that was me. That was me. Jesus positions himself as the central character in Scripture. As Augustine would later write, in the Old Testament, the new is concealed. In the new, the old is revealed. The whole Bible is the story of Jesus. The Old Testament is Act 1. The New Testament is Act 2. …

… have spoken. Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory? And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the scriptures concerning himself. It's all about Jesus. He is the word of God. That's what it says in John's gospel chapter one. And there it is. Some of you have seen this before. A lot of us at Passion City, you've seen this. Some of you haven't. You're like, why did you just pull a page out of your Bible? No one's ever done that before. And John 1, and I'll just pull that out. It says in John 1, 1, it says, in the beginning was the Word, capital W-O-R-D. And the Word was with God, and the Word was God. So there's your Trinity coming into play. He, verse 2, the Word, Now the word is a person. He was with God in the beginning. So we've got a word in the beginning that was with God and was God. …

Steven Furtick, 2024-11-25

but after jesus was resurrected from the dead on the day he got up from the grave he did something so strange and i want to share it with you today it's found in luke chapter 24 verse 13 through 35 we won't read all of that if you're doing the math we won't read all of that but i wanted to give you the homework as well because when the sermon is over then you can begin to live it out. Luke chapter 24, verse 13. And if you haven't found it by now, we're just going to do it on the screen. The Bible says, now that same day, two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. And as they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them. Tell your neighbor, you can't see him, but he's with me. Come on, tell them again. …

… I want to read in your hearing from that 24th chapter, from the New International Version, verses 13 through 32. Luke chapter 24, verses 13 through 32. And when you have found that, if you're physically able, would you stand with us together? We might reverence the reading of the Word of God from Luke chapter 24, beginning in verse number 13. Listen for the Word of the Lord. Now the same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. And as they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them. But they were kept from recognizing him. He asked them, what are you discussing together as you walk along? They stood still, their faces downcast. One of them named Cleopas asked him, are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days? …

… TO HAVE HAD A TAPE RECORDING OF THAT CONVERSATION AT SEVEN MILE BIBLE CONFERENCE. AND THE BIBLE SAYS IN LUKE CHAPTER 24 AND VERSE 27, HERE'S THE VERSE, AND BEGINNING AT MOSES AND ALL THE THE PROPHETS. NOW THAT'S WHAT WE CALL RIGHT HERE IN THIS VERSE, THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS. MOSES AND ALL THE PROPHETS. THAT JUST MEANS ALL THE OLD TESTAMENT. BEGINNING AT MOSES AND ALL THE PROPHETS. THAT IS, HE STEPPED INTO THE BIBLE AT GENESIS 1-1 AND HE BEGAN TO TALK. BEGINNING AT MOSES AND ALL THE PROPHETS, HE EXPOUNDED UNTO THEM IN ALL THE SCRIPTURES THE THINGS CONCERNING HIMSELF. WOULDN'T YOU HAVE LOVED TO HAVE HEARD THAT? WOULDN'T YOU HAVE LOVED TO HAVE HEARD THE SON OF GOD JUST OPEN THE BIBLE, WALKING ALONG FOR SEVEN MILES, TALKING TO THEM AND EXPOUNDING TO THEM IN ALL THE SCRIPTURES, THE THINGS CONCERNING HIMSELF. CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE TO HEAR THE SON OF GOD? I ONLY SAY THAT TO SAY THIS, THAT FRIEND, IF YOU READ THE BIBLE AND YOU DON'T SEE JESUS, YOU BETTER GO BACK AND RE-READ THE BIBLE. …
