… Watch, just go there in the text, verse 20. When Jesus saw their faith, he said, Friend, your sins are forgiven. The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone? Jesus knew what they were thinking. He asked them, Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? which is easier to say your sins are forgiven or to say get up and walk. But I want you to know that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins. So he said to the paralyzed man, I tell you, get up, take your mat, and go home. Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on, and went home praising God. Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God, and they were filled with awe and said, we have seen some remarkable things today. Write down number three today. Jesus can forgive and heal. …

… they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, this is really important. I need you to remember this scripture. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, son, your sins are forgiven. So Benny was paralyzed. And back then, that created some feelings around paralyzed people. Like, people pitied them. They felt sorry for them. So you could say, you'd be like, man, poor Benny, right? Poor Benny. Everybody say, poor Benny. Like, he can't walk. In Spanish, you would say, pobrecito. Benito. It rhymes, right? But what we're going to see is that he might have been poor in health, but he was rich in relationships. He had four friends that didn't pity him, but they loved him. They cared for him. And I want to show you two truths. And here's the first one. A loving church carries burdens. A loving church carries burdens. So picture the scene. Okay. The house is packed. I mean, from the windows to the walls, there's no room, right? And everybody's trying to get something from Jesus. Everybody wants something for him. But verse three says this, some men came bringing to Jesus, a paralyzed man carried by four of them. Notice what his friends didn't say and what they didn't do. They didn't say, oh, Benny, I'll be praying for you. They didn't say, oh, Benny, I hope you find some help. No, what did they do? They picked him up, carried him, and brought him to …

… bring him to jesus because of the crowd they made an opening in the roof over the place where jesus was. Then they lowered the cot on which the paralyzed man was lying and when Jesus saw their faith he said to the man friend your sins are forgiven. Some experts in Moses's teaching were sitting there and they thought why does he talk this way? He's dishonoring God. Who besides God can forgive sins? And at once Jesus knew inwardly what they were thinking and he asked them why do you have these thoughts? Is it easier to say to this paralyzed man your sins are forgiven or to say get up pick up your cot and walk I want you to know that the son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins then he said to the paralyzed man I'm telling you to get up pick up your cot and go home the man got up immediately picked up his cot and walked away while everyone watched everyone was amazed and praised God saying we have never seen anything like this now I need you to help me is that all right it may not help you but it's gonna help the preacher so just look at your neighbor tell them it's time to come home if they're not talking they the wrong one turn around find somebody else tell them it's time to come home come on we all family in here today just find one more person and say it's …

… It wasn't the sick man's faith. It says of Jesus when he saw their faith referring to the men that lowered him into the room. When he saw their faith, he said to the man, your sins are forgiven. and it stirred up such controversy in the room because the people were getting accustomed to healing people, but this whole issue of him forgiving sin crossed the line for many of them. And so Jesus asked the question, which is easier to say, your sins are forgiven, or rise up, pick up your bed and walk? And once again, he put these two subjects like two sides of the same coin. the forgiveness of sin, the healing of disease. They are a part of the same, they are two different parts of the expression of God's redemptive work. when the concept of salvation was brought from the back burner to the front burner in the reformation i don't want to see it disappeared through the church age but it was it had been uh kind of swept to the back and when it was brought to the front burner again for some reason they didn't include healing in salvation. …
