… because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue. So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him, Lord, don't trouble yourself for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. that is why I do not even consider myself worthy to come to you but say the word and my servant will be healed for I myself am a man under authority with soldiers under me I tell this one go and he goes I tell that one come and he comes I say to my servant do this and he does it when Jesus heard this he was amazed at him turning to the crowd following him he said I tell you I have not found such great faith even in Israel than the men who had been sent to return to the house and found the servant healed. I'm going to give you four things to write down today. Write down point number one. Faith grows where humility lives. Anytime you see humility, you'll watch faith take off. Notice the language of the centurion. He says, Lord, I'm not worthy for you to come under my roof. I'm not worthy for you to step into my house. Say the word and my servant will be healed. He is showing great humility. I just love this about the centurion because he wasn't saying, you know, I got some authority and I know who I am. He is saying, …

… But watch this, verse six. When he, Jesus, was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy even to have you come under my roof. Therefore, I didn't presume to come to you, but you could still just say the word, and I know my servant would be healed. You see, in contrast to the Jewish religious leaders, this Roman centurion says, I have no worthiness to put before you. By the way, notice that he didn't say, I'm not worthy, so don't bother. Rather, what he said is, I'm not worthy, but your mercy can be my hope. The religious leaders make a case for Jesus to heal based on the centurion's worthiness. The centurion's only appeals to Jesus's mercy. and then Luke throws in another wrinkle. The Roman centurion goes on. For I too am a man set under authority with soldiers under man. I say to one go and he goes and to another come and he comes and to my servant do this and he does it. …

We're going to be in Luke chapter 7. Everybody just remain standing just for the reading of the word. And then I'll have you seated here in just a moment. We're going to be in Luke chapter 7, verses 1 through 10. As I was preparing to preach today, we have been in this series, See King Jesus. And a pastor said that the series was done last week on Easter Sunday. And I just was like, hey, can I just do a bonus week? Can I just sneak in? Because it's been so powerful what God is doing. And so this is just a bonus week. This is just a bonus week of seeing King Jesus. We're going to be in Luke chapter 7, starting at verse 1. Here's what it says. It says, when Jesus had finished saying all of this to the people who were listening. Now, any nosy people is like, what was Jesus talking about? When Jesus said all of this, what was he saying? …

… in Capernaum, a Roman centurion. Verse 6, Jesus started on His way with them, and when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to Him, Lord, do not trouble Yourself further, for I am not worthy for You to come under My roof. This is a humble man. This is a centurion. This is a commander. This is the guy at the top of the pile. This is the drill sergeant over the hundred troops. This is someone who's a rough, tough guy, has some kind of an ego, has the ability to lead in very, very dangerous endeavors, but he's very humble, and he doesn't want Jesus to trouble Himself by coming all the way to the house. Verse 7, "'For this reason I didn't even consider myself worthy to come to you, but But just say the word, and My servant will be healed." He's not only humble, He believes. Capernaum was a busy place. Jesus did lots of miracles there, and He had come to believe that He had that miracle power. …
