Astonishing Authority, Part 1
Chuck Swindoll, 2026-10-16 · Scripture reading

presence of Jesus Christ must have been an awesome experience. Awesome. Watching him in action and seeing him as he ministered to people of all types with all kinds of needs was just magnificent. And hearing him preach with such magnificent mixture of authenticity and authority was surely breathtaking. Folks were, we would use the word, thunderstruck. I did a quick survey in the Gospels and found the responses in these words. They were amazed. They were astonished. No one dared ask him a question. No one ever spoke like this man. And again, they were amazed at his teaching. His content was reliable. His theology was impeccable. His presentation was flawless. His words were penetrating. And most of all, his authority was compelling. Better said, astonishing. Whoever heard him realized how different he was from any local rabbi they had listened to or any instructor, no matter the official title. There was no one like Jesus. An expositor from the past named George Campbell Morgan was the minister at Westminster Chapel in the heart of London on two separate occasions. …

A Day in the Life of Jesus (Part 1 of 3)
Alistair Begg, 2026-09-17 · Scripture reading

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went off to a solitary place where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed, Everyone is looking for you. Jesus replied, Let us go somewhere else, to the nearby villages, so that I can preach there also. That is why I have come. Father, we ask now that you will help us in studying the Bible for clarity of thought, for brevity of expression. for a sense that we are under the tutelage of you, the living God, that you are the one who teaches through your Word by the Holy Spirit, so that we might be prepared to sit up, to pay attention, and to say, Speak, Lord, speak to me. And we ask it humbly in Christ's name. Amen. Easter has reminded us of the fact that what we are dealing with is historical material, that Easter itself is a historical event, that it actually happened, that it involved real people in real places at a real moment in time. So much so that when we ask why it is that the small band of followers—men and women who had already begun to follow Jesus—why it was that although they had been in hiding for fear of their lives, they had come out of hiding to face the challenge that was not only presented by the religious authorities but also by the persecuting Roman Empire. Why it …

Speak Boldly · Part 1
David Platt, 2026-01-07

… the seas are calmed by the power of his word. Mark 1, verse 25, Jesus speaks a word and demons are cast out just because he spoke the word. Mark 2, verse 10, Jesus speaks and sins are forgiven. Luke 18, verse 42, Jesus speaks and the blind can now see. Luke 7, verse 14, Jesus speaks and a dead guy raises to life. Romans 10, verse 17 talks about how faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ. In other words, the only way we can be saved from our sins is when we hear the word of Christ. So the word of Christ is necessary for all of those things. and we are fools if we think we can manufacture the power of God in the church apart from his word. Why would you want to diminish the word that could cause blind guys to see and dead guys to get up out of the tomb? That's not a very smart way to do church. …
