1Then Jesus left that place and went into the region of Judea, beyond the Jordan. Again the crowds came to Him and He taught them, as was His custom. He arose from there and came into the borders of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Multitudes came together to him again. As he usually did, he was again teaching them. And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again. And he arose from thence, and cometh into the borders of Judæa and beyond the Jordan: and multitudes come together unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again.2Some Pharisees came to test Him. “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” they inquired.Pharisees came to him testing him, and asked him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.And there came unto him Pharisees, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? trying him.3“What did Moses command you?” He replied. He answered, “What did Moses command you?”And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?4They answered, “Moses permitted a man to write his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away.”They said, “Moses allowed a certificate of divorce to be written, and to divorce her.”And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.5But Jesus told them, “Moses wrote this commandment for you because of your hardness of heart. But Jesus said to them, “For your hardness of heart, he wrote you this commandment. And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. But Jesus said unto them, For your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.6However, from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. But from the beginning of the creation, Male and female made he them.7‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will join to his wife,For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife;8and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh.and the two will become one flesh, so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.and the two shall become one flesh: so that they are no more two, but one flesh.9Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.10When they were back inside the house, the disciples asked Jesus about this matter. In the house, his disciples asked him again about the same matter. And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter. And in the house the disciples asked him again of this matter.11So He told them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her.He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her.And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her:12And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.”If a woman herself divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.and if she herself shall put away her husband, and marry another, she committeth adultery.13Now people were bringing the little children to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them, and the disciples rebuked those who brought them. They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the disciples rebuked those who were bringing them. And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. And they were bringing unto him little children, that he should touch them: and the disciples rebuked them.14But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and told them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation and said to them, “Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me; forbid them not: for to such belongeth the kingdom of God.15Truly I tell you, anyone who does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”Most certainly I tell you, whoever will not receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it.”Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall in no wise enter therein.16And He took the children in His arms, placed His hands on them, and blessed them.He took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them. And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them. And he took them in his arms, and blessed them, laying his hands upon them.17As Jesus started on His way, a man ran up and knelt before Him. “Good Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”As he was going out into the way, one ran to him, knelt before him, and asked him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? And as he was going forth into the way, there ran one to him, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?18“Why do you call Me good?” Jesus replied. “No one is good except God alone.Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except one—God.And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good save one, even God.19You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not cheat others, honor your father and mother.’”You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not give false testimony,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and mother.’”Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.Thou knowest the commandments, Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor thy father and mother.20“Teacher,” he replied, “all these I have kept from my youth.”He said to him, “Teacher, I have observed all these things from my youth.”And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. And he said unto him, Teacher, all these things have I observed from my youth.21Jesus looked at him, loved him, and said to him, “There is one thing you lack: Go, sell everything you own and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”Jesus looking at him loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, taking up the cross.”Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.And Jesus looking upon him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.22But the man was saddened by these words and went away in sorrow, because he had great wealth. But his face fell at that saying, and he went away sorrowful, for he was one who had great possessions. And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions. But his countenance fell at the saying, and he went away sorrowful: for he was one that had great possessions.23Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter into God’s Kingdom!”And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!24And the disciples were amazed at His words. But Jesus said to them again, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answered again, “Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter into God’s Kingdom! And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!25It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”It is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye than for a rich man to enter into God’s Kingdom.”It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.It is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.26They were even more astonished and said to one another, “Who then can be saved?”They were exceedingly astonished, saying to him, “Then who can be saved?”And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? And they were astonished exceedingly, saying unto him, Then who can be saved?27Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.”Jesus, looking at them, said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God.”And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for all things are possible with God.28Peter began to say to Him, “Look, we have left everything and followed You.”Peter began to tell him, “Behold, we have left all and have followed you.”Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.29“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for My sake and for the gospelJesus said, “Most certainly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the sake of the Good News,And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s,Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or lands, for my sake, and for the gospel’s sake,30will fail to receive a hundredfold in the present age—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, along with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.but he will receive one hundred times more now in this time: houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come eternal life. But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.but he shall receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.31But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.”But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”But many that are first shall be last; and the last first. But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.32As they were going up the road to Jerusalem, Jesus was walking ahead of them. The disciples were amazed, but those who followed were afraid. Again Jesus took the Twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to Him:They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going in front of them, and they were amazed; and those who followed were afraid. He again took the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were going to happen to him.And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,And they were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going before them: and they were amazed; and they that followed were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were to happen unto him,33“Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes. They will condemn Him to death and will deliver Him over to the Gentiles,“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to the Gentiles.Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests and the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him unto the Gentiles:34who will mock Him and spit on Him and flog Him and kill Him. And after three days He will rise again.”They will mock him, spit on him, scourge him, and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.”And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.and they shall mock him, and shall spit upon him, and shall scourge him, and shall kill him; and after three days he shall rise again.35Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Jesus and declared, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.”James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came near to him, saying, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we will ask.”And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire. And there come near unto him James and John, the sons of Zebedee, saying unto him, Teacher, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall ask of thee.36“What do you want Me to do for you?” He inquired. He said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?”And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?37They answered, “Grant that one of us may sit at Your right hand and the other at Your left in Your glory.”They said to him, “Grant to us that we may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left hand, in your glory.”They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory. And they said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left hand, in thy glory.38“You do not know what you are asking,” Jesus replied. “Can you drink the cup I will drink, or be baptized with the baptism I will undergo?”But Jesus said to them, “You don’t know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?”But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I drink? or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?39“We can,” the brothers answered. “You will drink the cup that I drink,” Jesus said, “and you will be baptized with the baptism that I undergo. They said to him, “We are able.” Jesus said to them, “You shall indeed drink the cup that I drink, and you shall be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:And they said unto him, We are able. And Jesus said unto them, The cup that I drink ye shall drink; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:40But to sit at My right or left is not Mine to grant. These seats belong to those for whom they have been prepared.”but to sit at my right hand and at my left hand is not mine to give, but for whom it has been prepared.”But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.but to sit on my right hand or on my left hand is not mine to give; but it is for them for whom it hath been prepared.41When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. When the ten heard it, they began to be indignant toward James and John. And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John. And when the ten heard it, they began to be moved with indignation concerning James and John.42So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their superiors exercise authority over them.Jesus summoned them and said to them, “You know that they who are recognized as rulers over the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. And Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they who are accounted to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great ones exercise authority over them.43But it shall not be this way among you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,But it shall not be so among you, but whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:But it is not so among you: but whosoever would become great among you, shall be your minister;44and whoever wants to be first must be the slave of all.Whoever of you wants to become first among you shall be bondservant of all.And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.and whosoever would be first among you, shall be servant of all.45For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”For the Son of Man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. For the Son of man also came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.46Next, they came to Jericho. And as Jesus and His disciples were leaving Jericho with a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting beside the road. They came to Jericho. As he went out from Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road. And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimeus, the son of Timeus, sat by the highway side begging. And they come to Jericho: and as he went out from Jericho, with his disciples and a great multitude, the son of Timæus, Bartimæus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the way side.47When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!”And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.And when he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.48Many people admonished him to be silent, but he cried out all the louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”Many rebuked him, that he should be quiet, but he cried out much more, “You son of David, have mercy on me!”And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.And many rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried out the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.49Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called the blind man. “Take courage!” they said. “Get up! He is calling for you.”Jesus stood still and said, “Call him.” They called the blind man, saying to him, “Cheer up! Get up. He is calling you!”And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee. And Jesus stood still, and said, Call ye him. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good cheer: rise, he calleth thee.50Throwing off his cloak, Bartimaeus jumped up and came to Jesus. He, casting away his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. And he, casting away his garment, sprang up, and came to Jesus.51“What do you want Me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “Rabboni,” said the blind man, “let me see again.”Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “Rabboni, that I may see again.”And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. And Jesus answered him, and said, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? And the blind man said unto him, Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.52“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.Jesus said to him, “Go your way. Your faith has made you well.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the way.And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And straightway he received his sight, and followed him in the way.
