As they were going up the road to Jerusalem, Jesus was walking ahead of them. The disciples were amazed, but those who followed were afraid. Again Jesus took the Twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to Him:They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going in front of them, and they were amazed; and those who followed were afraid. He again took the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were going to happen to him.And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,And they were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going before them: and they were amazed; and they that followed were afraid. Snapshots of the Servant of God, Part 2
Chuck Swindoll, 2026-10-08

He'd been talking about his death. They want to know, can we sit on your right? We don't want the center seat. That's yours. But could I have this one? And could my brother have that one? I mean, that'd be okay, wouldn't it? and verse 38, Jesus said, you don't know what you're asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink and be baptized with the baptism which I'm baptized? They said, we're able. Doesn't that sound like us in an unguarded moment? Yeah, we're ready. No, you're not. You have so much to learn before you suffer like I'm going to suffer and you will suffer like this. So much to learn. and chapter 10, verse 45, sort of the turning point we mentioned earlier, even the Son of Man didn't come to be served, but to serve. That's the first section. … that's vitally important. Just setting the stage for this particular time in history and this week that we look at in history. In Mark chapter 10, verse 32, out of the New Living Translation, it's just, I don't normally use it, but it makes it very, very simple. Mark chapter 10, verse 32, this is by way of introduction to our series, Your Only Hope. It says they were now on the way up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. The disciples were filled with awe, that's our first emotion, and the people following behind were overwhelmed with fear, that's the second emotion. Taking the 12 disciples aside, Jesus once more began to describe everything that was about to happen to him, and he said in verse 33, listen, he said, we're going up to Jerusalem where the Son of Man, speaking of himself, will be betrayed. I'm going to submit to you that's another emotion because Jesus, he knows what's coming. To the leading priest and to the teachers of religious law, they will sentence him to die and hand him over to the Romans. …

The Savior's Charity
Charles Spurgeon

24. But Jesus answered again, and said unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the Kingdom of God/It is an impossibility. Only God can do it. 25-35. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God. And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who, then, can be saved? And Jesus looking upon them said, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed: and as they followed, they were afraid. And He took the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto Him, Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes. And they shall condemn Him to death andshall deliver Him to the Gentiles. And they shallmock Him, and shall scourge Him, andshallspit upon Him, and shall kill Him. And the third day He shall rise again. From the number of these sentences it is clear that our Savior entered into a very detailed account of His sufferings, dwelling upon each particular which He plainly foresaw, wherein we see His Prophetic Character. But it is more to our point to see that He knew beforehand what it would cost Him to redeem our souls— …
