… created them from the beginning made them male and female? And he said, for this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. Consequently, they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. Jesus said you can answer this whole question about divorce and remarriage by going back to God's original plan and pattern for human sexuality. You know what God's pattern for human sexuality is? Jesus said it right here. He said a mouthful. He said sex is reserved, first of all, for people in a marriage relationship. He said a man shall cleave to his wife. Sex is reserved for the marriage relationship. Secondly, he said, sex is between a man and a woman. God created them male and female. A man shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife. God's plan for human sexuality is very clear. Yes, it's true. Jesus never mentioned the word homosexuality. He never said, thou shall not commit homosexuality. But guess what? Jesus never said, thou shall not commit incest. Jesus never said, thou shall not commit bestiality, or pedophilia, or necrophilia. He never spoke out against any of those things. Was it he was pro necrophilia and pedophilia? Of course not. By upholding God's pattern for sexuality, by saying, here's the way God designed it. …
… and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate. They said to him, why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce and to send her away? He said to them, because of your hardness of heart, Moses allowed you to divorce your wives. But from the beginning, it was not so. And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality and marries another, commits adultery. The disciples said to him, if such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry. But he said to them, not everyone can receive this saying, but only to those to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this, receive it. All right, let's think together about the word of Christ. …
… leave his father and his mother. That means get out of your parents' basement and be united to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but they are one flesh. Therefore, Therefore, what God has joined together, let no man separate. Let nobody separate you. Why? Why does God need to quote all the way back to the first book of the Bible? Because there's going to be some things that try and separate you and your spouse. There's going to be some people that try and get in the way of your marriage. And you've got to fight for unity. What God has joined together, let no man separate. When I was in Bible college my freshman year, I was in a class, big class for our Bible college, like 60-something people. And the professor got up and she said, who here believes that there is one person out there on the earth for you to find? And they are God's plan for you to marry. …
… male and female and said, therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but they are one flesh now. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. So Jesus' answer is hard no. It is not okay for a man to divorce his wife for just any cause. Jesus then quotes from Genesis 2 where God establishes marriage and he points out that marriage was designed by God to be a lifelong covenant, a union lasting until death. No man or woman should ever separate, dare separate themselves from a union that God established. In marriage, He has made you one entity, a new entity, one new body. It is dissolvable only by death. And when it happens before that, it's like amputation. Verse 7, so they said to Him, well then why, why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce and to send her away. Now they're feeling good. …
