At this, the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and came out with a loud shriek. The unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.And the unclean spirit, tearing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.

Astonishing Authority, Part 1
Chuck Swindoll, 2026-10-16 · Scripture reading

presence of Jesus Christ must have been an awesome experience. Awesome. Watching him in action and seeing him as he ministered to people of all types with all kinds of needs was just magnificent. And hearing him preach with such magnificent mixture of authenticity and authority was surely breathtaking. Folks were, we would use the word, thunderstruck. I did a quick survey in the Gospels and found the responses in these words. They were amazed. They were astonished. No one dared ask him a question. No one ever spoke like this man. And again, they were amazed at his teaching. His content was reliable. His theology was impeccable. His presentation was flawless. His words were penetrating. And most of all, his authority was compelling. Better said, astonishing. Whoever heard him realized how different he was from any local rabbi they had listened to or any instructor, no matter the official title. There was no one like Jesus. An expositor from the past named George Campbell Morgan was the minister at Westminster Chapel in the heart of London on two separate occasions. …

A Day in the Life of Jesus (Part 1 of 3)
Alistair Begg, 2026-09-17 · Scripture reading

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went off to a solitary place where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed, Everyone is looking for you. Jesus replied, Let us go somewhere else, to the nearby villages, so that I can preach there also. That is why I have come. So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons. Father, we ask now that you will help us in studying the Bible for clarity of thought, for brevity of expression. for a sense that we are under the tutelage of you, the living God, that you are the one who teaches through your Word by the Holy Spirit, so that we might be prepared to sit up, to pay attention, and to say, Speak, Lord, speak to me. And we ask it humbly in Christ's name. Amen. Easter has reminded us of the fact that what we are dealing with is historical material, that Easter itself is a historical event, that it actually happened, that it involved real people in real places at a real moment in time. So much so that when we ask why it is that the small band of followers—men and women who had already begun to follow Jesus—why it was that although they had been in hiding for fear of their lives, they had come out of hiding to face the challenge that was not only presented by the religious authorities but also by the persecuting Roman Empire. Why it …

The Astonishing Authority of Christ
Skip Heitzig, 2026-04-19

Interesting sermon. The delegate, Jesus, stands up, reads his text, gives an exposition of whatever text he preached or spoke from. We're not told. I wish perhaps we were, but he is giving his sermon and his sermon gets interrupted by a demon-possessed shriek. Now there's two things striking about this little story here. It strikes me. Number one, you got a demon-possessed guy in church. Yes, the devil comes to church. he's there in church. How long has he been in the synagogue? We don't know. He could have just been visiting. Maybe he had been there a long time. Maybe he was on the welcome team. No offense to the welcome team. I'm not casting shade, but he could have been there a long time and nobody knew. So that is striking. The second thing that strikes me here is that the only ones that are sure of Jesus' true identity were demons. You notice what the confession is. Jesus of Nazareth, the Holy One of God. They are confessing on one hand his humanity, on the other hand his deity. …
