… for that little summary And in that context, a leper came to him, imploring him, and kneeling, said to him, If you will, you can make me clean. Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, I will be clean. And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. and Jesus sternly charged him and sent him away at once and said to him see that you say nothing to anyone but go show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded for a proof to them but he went out and began to talk freely about it and to spread the news so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town but was out in desolate places and people were coming to him from every quarter. And when he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. And many were gathered there so that there was no more room, not even at the door. …

Verse 40 says, Now a leper came to him, imploring him, kneeling down to him, and saying to him, If you are willing, you can make me clean. So right off the bat in this paragraph, we are given the condition of this man, a leper. We are not told his name. We are not told his occupation. We're not even told exactly what town he is from. He is just called a leper. Why is that? Because his life has become defined by his disease. That's how severe it was. He, like many others at that time, were just lepers. Now, I want to just tell you about that term, leprosy in the Bible. It is a very broad term. pathologically speaking it is one of two very different conditions the first condition could be any kind of a skin disease eczema seborrhea psoriasis vitiligo it would be something that would be a condition that would come and go but it was it was placed under the broad category of leprosy but then the second category was much more severe it is what we call Hansen's disease. Dr. Kevin DeYoung | How Can I Be Clean?
Kevin DeYoung, 2026-01-25 · Scripture reading

… long list, but this really is a great, great text. Follow along as I read from Mark chapter 1, beginning at verse 40. And a leper came to him, that is Jesus, imploring him and kneeling said to him, if you will, you can make me clean. Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, I will be clean. And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. And Jesus sternly charged him and sent him away at once and said to him, see that you say nothing to anyone but go show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing when Moses commanded for a proof to them. But he went out and began to talk freely about it and to spread the news so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was out in desolate places. People were coming to him from every quarter. Let's pray. Father in heaven, we ask for your help now, not only in coming to the hearing and the preaching of your word, but we do pray for our community here in Matthews, the Charlotte area, and the millions of people here in the southeast and up the east coast facing this winter storm. We pray for your protection. We can often take for granted how relatively easy our lives are most of the time, how smoothly things go, getting where we want, what we need in relative comfort. We pray that you would provide for us, especially those who may be …
