Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, I will be clean. And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. and Jesus sternly charged him and sent him away at once and said to him see that you say nothing to anyone but go show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded for a proof to them but he went out and began to talk freely about it and to spread the news so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town but was out in desolate places and people were coming to him from every quarter. … And Jesus said to them, let us go on to the next towns that I may preach there. Preach there also for that is why I came out. And what then follows is what I'm about to read. Okay. There's no extra charge for that little summary. And in that context, a leper came to him, imploring him, and kneeling, said to him, if you will, you can make me clean. Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, I will be clean. And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. and Jesus sternly charged him and sent him away at once and said to him, see that you say nothing to anyone but go show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded for a proof to them. But he went out and began to talk freely about it and to spread the news so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town but was out in desolate places and people were coming to him from every quarter. And when he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. And many were gathered there so that there was no more room, not even at the door. …

… he knew that this was coming. And so look at this in Mark chapter 1, verse 43. This had me cracking up. Jesus went to him and said, once with a strong warning, see that you don't tell this to anyone, but go show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing as a testimony to them. 45. Instead, he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly, but stayed outside in lonely places. The more that I wrestled with this text, I realized that many of us, we've surrendered our lives to Jesus, but we're struggling with submitting to his authority. You want his love, but you reject his wisdom. didn't just want to save you he wants to lead you he wants to guide you and so today I wanted to slow down for a moment to just charge you in this in this season of your life to make a decision say I'm going to obey the voice of God I'm going to do what he said to do now just for a moment there may be someone in the room that's like hey I've never heard God speak to me. I don't even know what you mean when you say that. I heard a pastor say this once. I'm going to try to give this to you really quick about hearing the voice of God just for a moment, …

Dr. Kevin DeYoung | How Can I Be Clean?

… long list, but this really is a great, great text. Follow along as I read from Mark chapter 1, beginning at verse 40. And a leper came to him, that is Jesus, imploring him and kneeling said to him, if you will, you can make me clean. Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, I will be clean. And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. And Jesus sternly charged him and sent him away at once and said to him, see that you say nothing to anyone but go show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing when Moses commanded for a proof to them. But he went out and began to talk freely about it and to spread the news so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was out in desolate places. People were coming to him from every quarter. Let's pray. Father in heaven, we ask for your help now, not only in coming to the hearing and the preaching of your word, but we do pray for our community here in Matthews, the Charlotte area, and the millions of people here in the southeast and up the east coast facing this winter storm. We pray for your protection. We can often take for granted how relatively easy our lives are most of the time, how smoothly things go, getting where we want, what we need in relative comfort. We pray that you would provide for us, especially those who may be …
