… Hosanna to the Son of David. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. You know, Palm Sunday is a moment of celebration. Picture it. The streets are full in Jerusalem. The atmosphere is charged. The crowd is there with expectation and anticipation of a king to come. And Jesus enters Jerusalem. And the people respond with a cry that captures the longing of a human heart. They shout, Hosanna. Which means, save us. Save us now. And they're not wrong for praising. They're not wrong for asking for saving. They're not wrong for asking Jesus to save them. But there is a tension in the moment. There is a tension in the air that they do not yet understand how that salvation will come to pass in a few days. They're asking a big ask. And sometimes if we're honest, that's just not their story in the city of Jerusalem. That's our story too right here in Fayetteville. how often we've asked God to move but already decided how it should look like how often we cried out for rescue but only in the form we're comfortable with and the form that we understand in our human minds you see the crowd here in Jerusalem expect a certain kind of saving a certain kind of deliverance they expect visible power political overthrow and immediate change they expect a king who will rise up and fix everything that's wrong around them. …
… Matthew covers this from his eyes, Matthew. And then Mark's gospel, Mark 11, verses 1 through 11. Mark sees it and records it through his eyes. And then Dr. Luke, medical doctor, the gospel of Luke. Luke from chapter 19, verses 29 onward, he records it. And that's the chapter or the book I've selected for today. And then, of course, John chapter 12, verses 12 to 19. John records it from his eyes. Why is this important? I don't want to get too much into this, except that the Bible says that before two or three witnesses, the truth shall be established. Which, by the way, if you're an attorney, or maybe you're a judge, or maybe you're involved in law, did you know that our jurisprudence of the United States of America is founded upon the biblical requirement of you not being able to be convicted without multiple witnesses? Did you know our founding fathers got that from the scriptures? and God brings it on the stage and says, here are, watch this, here are three eyewitnesses that are going to record the events of other eyewitnesses and I've added a fourth, John's Gospel, and it's a beautiful thing to look at because we love, for example, quadraphonic sound. …
… Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Verse 10, blessed is the coming kingdom of our Father David. Hosanna in the highest. Matthew adds that they said, Hosanna to the Son of David, the most common messianic expression. They're ready for the kingdom. And Luke adds that they also shouted, Peace in heaven and glory in the highest. In other words, this is it. Heaven is going to be at peace. heaven is going to be settled. This is the end of trouble in the world and trouble in heaven. It's all coming to the conclusion. This is the messianic moment when all God's promises come true. The peace will be so great, it will not only settle things on earth, but in heaven. Now let me say, they were right about everything they said. Absolutely right. He is the Savior. He is the one who comes in the name of the Lord, as Psalm 118 says. He is the one who brings the kingdom. They have the right one. …
