… that's Jesus from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, pulling a Eutychus, exhausted from sorrow. And he goes, why are you sleeping? Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. Now think about that. What in the world does sleeping and temptation have to do with each other? In another version, he'll say the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Why are you talking about sleep, Jesus, and talking about temptation? I'm wondering if He's given us a picture that in the same way, when you're fighting to fall asleep and stay awake, that is the fight between your flesh and your spirit. And it is the fight of your life to stay spiritually awake, to stay attentive, because everything in our culture will try to put you to sleep. the Bible is replete with examples telling us to be alert, to be sober, to be vigilant. He says, oh, my father, if this cup cannot pass away from me unless I drink it, your will be done. I love this because we talk about this, nevertheless, not my will, but your will be done, as if he said it only one time. But he had to go back and say it again. Lord, are you sure, sure? And then he goes back to the disciples, and he came, and he found them sleeping in, for their eyes were heavy. They just couldn't do it, so he left them. … THEM TO THIS END, THAT MEN OUGHT ALWAYS TO PRAY AND NOT TO FAINT. THE LORD JESUS SAID IN MARK 14 VERSE 38, WATCH AND PRAY LEST YOU ENTER INTO TEMPTATION. EVERY TIME YOU'VE SINNED IT IS BECAUSE YOU FAILED TO PRAY AS YOU OUGHT. WATCH AND PRAY LEST YOU ENTER INTO TEMPTATION. THE APOSTLE PAUL SAID, BE CAREFUL FOR NOTHING, THAT IS DON'T WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING, BUT IN EVERYTHING BY PRAYER AND SUPPLICATION WITH THANKSGIVING LET YOUR REQUEST BE MADE KNOWN UNTO GOD. THE REASON YOU'RE SO FULL OF CARE AND, AND WORRY RIGHT NOW IS YOU'VE NOT TRULY LEARNED HOW TO PRAY. IN EVERYTHING BY PRAYER AND SUPPLICATION, YOU ARE TO ASK GOD FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU NEED. YOU KNOW, A GOOD TEST OF ANYTHING, WHETHER IT'S RIGHT OR WRONG FOR YOU TO HAVE IT IS, CAN YOU ASK GOD FOR IT? NOW IF YOU DON'T FEEL YOU CAN ASK GOD FOR IT, YOU REALLY DON'T HAVE ANY BUSINESS WITH IT. YOU SEE, WE'RE TO PRAY ABOUT ANYTHING. IF IT'S WRONG TO ASK GOD FOR IT, IT'S WRONG TO HAVE IT OR TO DO IT. DON'T DIVIDE YOUR LIFE UP into the secular and the sacred. Don't say, well, there's certain things I can pray about and certain things I don't pray about because God's not interested in those things. Oh, no. …
