… At that moment, here comes the above and beyond, friends, the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split, and the tombs broke open. Now check this out. A lot of people miss this. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. So the moment he died, lots of tombs break open and dead people come out alive. Resurrection, this is our story. And they came out of the tombs after Jesus' resurrection and went in the holy city and appeared to many people. When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified. And they exclaimed, surely he was the son of God. Many women were there watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee's sons. As the evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea. …

It's Go Time
Jamal Bryant, 2026-04-05

… Bless the Lord, you may be seated in the presence of the Lord. At that moment, the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook. The rock split. tombs broke open. The bodies of holy people who had died were raised to life. And all them people came out the tomb after Jesus' resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people. I'm going to preach for a little while today using as a subject, it's go time. Look at the person beside you, tell them it's go time. I'm reminded of the African proverb that says if you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, take somebody with you. If you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, take somebody with you. Don't judge me, but I took my wife the other day to go see New Edition. And while sitting in the tour, while sitting in the concert, it dawned on me how my generation was raised seeing groups. …

… Then Luke, in the same verse, verse 45, looks to the temple to show us what happened at the temple. Verse 45, just the second half of the verse, and the veil of the temple was torn in two. Now, you probably know the veil of the temple was a separating cloth originally in the tabernacle that separated the holy place from the most holy place or the holy of holies. And the holy of holies, only the high priest could go into that room once a year. And what separated those two chambers was a veil. As time went on and there was a temple, the veil got much, much, much, much bigger. At the time of Christ, according to tradition, because of the height of the temple, the veil was 60 feet high. So take this building times two from its apex, from its pinnacle twice or better than that, 60 feet tall, 30 feet wide, and it was as thick as the palm of a man's hand or roughly four inches thick. It took 300 priests to handle that single veil. …

The Presence of the Lord | Jentezen Franklin
Jentezen Franklin, 2026-03-30 · Scripture reading

… Jesus cried out with a loud voice and breathed his last. Then the veil in the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. So when the centurion who stood opposite him saw that, he cried out like this and breathed his last. He said, truly, this man was the son of God. I want to preach to you this morning on the presence of the Lord. The presence of the Lord. the reason that the text is left in ancient Hebrew the writers say that when they were translating from Hebrew to our languages in the first Bible which was the King James Version for us they could not find the words that it carries in that culture. Just as there are great illustration words that mean, have generations of meaning to them. The translators lifted and decided to just leave it in its original language because what was happening on the cross at that very moment when Christ died, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, He was put on the cross at 12. …

Forsaking Christ (Mark 14:43-52)
John MacArthur, 2024-03-29

… You'd think that that would be such a horrific scene that no one would have a positive response. But verse 38 says, and the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. And then this most amazing moment, Mark records when the centurion, he's in charge of the Romans doing the crucifixion. When the centurion who was standing right in front of Jesus, managing His execution, the way he breathed his last, he said, truly this man was the Son of God. Amazing. Judas who had seen him for three years couldn't see that he was the Son of God. A Roman soldier who had seen Him in three hours of darkness was convinced that He was the Son of God, even when utterly forsaken. The demonstration of His majesty cannot be missed. It cannot be hidden. And it was seen in that very hour by the most obscure of people, a Roman centurion. Judas went to his own place, to hell, after three years of being with Jesus. …
