Common People with an Uncommon Task

… personally. And let me just remind you of something we already read in Mark. In Mark chapter 3, we read this, he appointed the 12 that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and have the power to heal sickness and cast out demons. Up till now, they've done just the first part. They're with him. Now he's sending them out to do the second part, to preach, to cast out demons and heal people. Let's read Mark chapter three, verse 13 to 19, as we get introduced to this ragtag crew. And he went up on the mountain and called to him those he himself wanted. So these are the guys he wanted. And they came to him. Then he appointed 12 that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and have power to heal sickness and to cast out demons. Simon, who he gave the name Peter, James, the son of Zebedee, and John, the brother of James, to whom he gave the name, now I'm not even gonna try that one because it's gonna come out inappropriate, so let's move on. That is sons of thunder. Let's stop there. We're gonna see again four things that Jesus sees when he looks at you. And the first group that I wanna look at are these guys, the sons of thunder, James and John. …

… looking to Mark chapter 3, beginning at verse 14. Mark 3, verse 14. If it is your custom, please stand for the reading and hearing of the word. Following Mark 3 and 14, we will turn to Mark chapter 5 and read one verse there, verse 9. We're starting in Mark chapter 3, verse 14. I'm reading this morning from the new revised Standard Version of the Text. Hear ye now the Word of the Lord. And Jesus appointed twelve, who he also named apostles, to be with him and to be sent out to proclaim the message and to have authority to cast out demons. I'll read it again in your hearing. And Jesus appointed 12, who he also named apostles, to be with him and to be sent out to proclaim the message and to have authority to cast out demons. And moving to a familiar text, Mark 5 and verse 9. It reads on this wise. Then Jesus asked him, the Gerasene demoniac, what is your name? …
