Sermons on Mark 4:37

Soon a violent windstorm came up, and the waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was being swamped.A big wind storm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so much that the boat was already filled. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And there ariseth a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the boat, insomuch that the boat was now filling.

… What happens when Mark 4 37 comes up that I left the crowd I decided to go to the deep and this should be easy now because you are with me right and look what verse 37 is the whole point of this message but soon a fierce storm came up no no that's that's no no no no no no no no That's not possible. It's not possible that I obeyed God. It's not possible that the season was just calm. That's not possible that I trusted God. I gave him the crazy faith offering. I keep showing up. … But we are going to jump here into the message. The title of today's message is Wind and Waves. Let's go. Mark chapter 4 verses 35 through 41. It says this, On that day when evening came, Jesus said to the disciples, Let's go across to the other side of the lake. So after leaving the crowd, they took him along, just as he was in the boat, and other boats were with him. Now a great windstorm developed and the waves were breaking into the boat so that the boat was nearly swamped. But Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. They woke him up and said to him, teacher, do you not care that we are about to die? So Jesus got up, wiped the sleep out of his eyes, and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, be quiet, calm down. Then the wind stopped, and it was dead calm. Notice what the Bible is doing here. The disciples come to Jesus, and they say, don't you care that we are about to die? …

… let us go over to the other side. Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along just as he was in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, Teacher, don't you care if we drown? He got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, Quiet, be still. Then the wind died down, and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith? and they were terrified and asked each other, who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him. Let's clap our hands and thank God for his word today. You may be seated. You may be seated. 37. And there arose a great windstorm—Our friend, John Macgregor, "Rob Roy," tells us that the lake is subject to very sudden and severe storms. It lies in a deep hollow and down from the surrounding ravines and valleys the air comes with a tremendous rush seldom experienced even upon a real ocean, for this was, of course, only a little lake though sometimes called a sea. I have been told that, on some Scotch lochs, the wind will occasionally come from three or four quarters at once, lifting the boat bodily out of the water—and sometimes seeming to lift the water up towards Heaven with the boat and all in it! So it was that night, when "there arose a great windstorm"— 37. And the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full of water. No doubt they baled out the boat with all their might, and did their best to prevent it from sinking, yet, "it was now full of water." But where was their Lord and Master, and what was He doing while the storm was raging? …
