WIND & WAVES | Chad Narayan
Chad Narayan, 2026-09-07

… But we are going to jump here into the message. The title of today's message is Wind and Waves. Let's go. Mark chapter 4 verses 35 through 41. It says this, On that day when evening came, Jesus said to the disciples, Let's go across to the other side of the lake. So after leaving the crowd, they took him along, just as he was in the boat, and other boats were with him. Now a great windstorm developed and the waves were breaking into the boat so that the boat was nearly swamped. But Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. They woke him up and said to him, teacher, do you not care that we are about to die? So Jesus got up, wiped the sleep out of his eyes, and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, be quiet, calm down. Then the wind stopped, and it was dead calm. Notice what the Bible is doing here. The disciples come to Jesus, and they say, don't you care that we are about to die? …

Travel Tips for Storm-Goers
Skip Heitzig, 2026-08-30

… Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing? Then he arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But he said to them, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith? and they feared exceedingly and said to one another, who can this be that even the wind and the sea obey him? This happens to be one of Christianity's favorite stories. For the last 2,000 years, this has been a celebrated, highlighted, inspired story. So, early Christian motif will often depict a boat going through a storm and the inside of cathedrals in antiquity, not antiquity, but in the old days, still to this day, the inside ceiling of many cathedrals is like a reverse hull of a ship on purpose. it is the idea meant to portray that the church is going to carry people through the storms of this world all the way into eternity and so they shape the top of the ceiling called the nave by the way n-a-v-e we get our word navy from that it means a ship the idea of this storm and this ship is very common in christianity and it has inspired great artists probably the most famous depiction of this storm is by Rembrandt himself, who painted this picture called Storm on the Sea of Galilee. …

… woke him and said to him, Teacher, don't you care if we drown? He got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, Quiet, be still. Then the wind died down, and it was completely calm. … Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing? Then he arose and rebuked the wind, said to the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. But he said to them, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith? Verse 39 and 40 again. And he rose, rebuked the wind, said to the sea, peace, be still. And the wind ceased. There was a great calm. And he said to them, why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith? I love this story because it illustrates for me this role of maturity that God requires from us. he did not design us to ask him to do everything for us he's not the cosmic bellhop waiting for us to ring the bell and he comes running to fulfill whatever requests we have him have of him i believe so strongly in the importance and power of prayer and i believe strongly that we are to bring petition a request of him so it's almost a contradiction but in lifestyle it's not Jesus has his disciples in this boat and they're in a life-threatening storm the boat is already starting to fill so they're afraid they're going to die it's a legitimate fear without God it's a legitimate fear and so they wake Jesus up ask him don't you care that we're perishing he stands he rebukes the wind says peace to the storm everything stops and then he says …

And he said to them, why are you afraid? Even now you have no faith. They were struck with awe and said to one another, who is this? Even the wind and the sea obey him. That's just so good. Speak Boldly – Part 1
David Platt, 2026-01-07

… So Hebrews 11, 3 talks about how God created the world by his word. Mark 4, verse 39, Jesus speaks a word and the storms are calmed, the seas are calmed by the power of his word. Mark 1, verse 25, Jesus speaks a word and demons are cast out just because he spoke the word. Mark 2, verse 10, Jesus speaks and sins are forgiven. Luke 18, verse 42, Jesus speaks and the blind can now see. Luke 7, verse 14, Jesus speaks and a dead guy raises to life. Romans 10, verse 17 talks about how faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ. In other words, the only way we can be saved from our sins is when we hear the word of Christ. So the word of Christ is necessary for all of those things. and we are fools if we think we can manufacture the power of God in the church apart from his word. Why would you want to diminish the word that could cause blind guys to see and dead guys to get up out of the tomb? That's not a very smart way to do church. …

… asleep on a pillow. And they woke him and said to him, Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing? Then he arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Peace be still. And the wind ceased and there was great calm. But he said to them, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith? I feel like we get into, well-meaning people get into religious ruts. Religious ruts where we forget to think about, to dwell on, to meditate, to discover how the kingdom of God actually works. And this hits one of them right square in the head. Who is Jesus? Yeah, this isn't a trick question. You're looking at me like, you don't know? There'll be no trick questions today, all right? I'm going to be nice all day long. Who is Jesus? He's God. What do we call conversation with God? Prayer. So the disciples pray. Jesus gets up. He answers their prayer and then turns to them and says, Why don't you have any faith? …
