and to be with you at all of our locations, the foundry and of course here at our Leawood location. And I'm preaching today in part because we are dedicating our new chapel, our new Wesley Chapel at our Leawood location. So I wanted to be here for the dedication of the chapel. I've been worshiping with resurrection each week at various locations and often here at Leawood, but often online when I'm traveling over the weekend. And it's been a joy to just be a worshiper, but it's great to have a chance to preach today. And we are dedicating our new chapel. This chapel is available for anyone at any of our locations. Those of you who are watching online or on TV, you're welcome to use it to come and pray. It's available for weddings, for funerals, and of course our 7.30 service on Sunday mornings, special baptismal services and others. And this weekend, the passage of scripture you just heard is what inspired the design of this chapel. …

Why This Storm? | Jentezen Franklin
Jentezen Franklin, 2026-08-03

… All right, I'm reading this morning from Mark chapter 6. Mark chapter 6 and verse 45. If you are looking at a Bible, you know that right up above is one of the great stories of the Bible, the feeding of the 5,000. It had just happened the same day. and now verse 45 picks up the story immediately. Jesus, he made his disciples. The King James says he constrained them. It's a very different word. Some, if you look it up in translations, one of them says it is very near, could have been he even laid hands on them because apparently they did not want to go. The word constrain is used several times. This is a story in the Bible over and over that's told by different writers. Constrain them. He made his disciples get in the boat and go before him to the other side to Bethsaida. While he sent the multitude away and when he had sent them away, he departed to the mountain to pray. …

… you can have tribulation and know that Jesus has overcome. But Jesus gave us the illustration. The gospel writers recount it. Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side while he dismissed the crowd. And after he had dismissed them, he went upon a mountainside by himself to pray. Now we saw this in the close the door part of this collection. Later that night, he was there alone and the boat was already a considerable distance from land buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. Shortly before dawn, Jesus went out to them walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified and said, it's a ghost. And they cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them, take courage. It is I. Don't be afraid. Lord, if it's you, Peter replied, tell me to come to you on the water. And Jesus said, okay, come. Then Peter, we all know this story, got down out of the boat and walked on the water. …

… Again, John 6, verses 1-15. And then locate Mark 6, verse 45, and I'll read verses 45-52 as we read the account of Jesus walking on the water from that passage. I'll give you a moment to find both. John 6, verse 1, and then Mark 6, verse 45, where you'll put your finger as we turn back to John 6, 1 to 15. And remember, I'll be reading from the New Living Translation. After this, Jesus crossed over to the far side of the Sea of Galilee, also known as the Sea of Tiberias. A huge crowd kept following him wherever he went because they saw his miraculous signs as he healed the sick. Then Jesus climbed a hill and sat down with his disciples around him. It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration. Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, Where can we buy bread to feed all these people? He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do. …

Sinking In The Storm

Now, the Bible says a word we were just singing about this word in verse 22, so it's appropriate. immediately. Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone. The boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves, because the wind was against it. Shortly before dawn, Jesus went out to them walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him on the lake, they were terrified. It's a ghost, they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them, Take courage at his eye. Don't be afraid. Lord, if it's you, Peter replied, tell me to come to you on the water. Come, he said. And Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, it was blowing the whole time. …

The God Of Pieces
Steven Furtick, 2025-05-19

… but Jesus was not on it with them. It didn't break, but Jesus was not on the boat with them. Look at Mark 6, verse 45. Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida while he dismissed the crowd. After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray. Later that night, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land. He saw the disciples straining at the oars because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn, he went out to them walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them. This shows me that Jesus even physically revealed himself in pieces to the disciples. He did not identify himself immediately. He revealed himself in pieces. I point that out because you don't always know that it's God at first. In fact, sometimes the presence of God in our lives is met with the feeling of fear, like the disciples in this passage. The Bible says that he was about to pass them by, but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. …
