When you glance at wealth, it disappears, for it makes wings for itself and flies like an eagle to the sky.Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings, Like an eagle that flieth toward heaven.

The Habits of Financial Health - Part 3
Rick Warren, 2026-09-04

… it's going to leave without telling you. Proverbs 23 verse five says this. Your money can be gone in a flash as if it had grown wings and flown away like an eagle. That's a pretty descriptive picture. Your money, if you don't know where it's going, it's just gonna fly away like an eagle. Now fortunately the United States government is kind enough to remind us by putting an eagle on every dollar bill. So when you look at that dollar bill, it goes, this one's going to fly away unless I tell it where to go. All right? Now that brings us to habit number six. Habit number six is I must plan my spending. These are one of the eight habits you must do to get out of debt and to get financially free. I must start planning my spending. Most of you do not plan your spending. You don't have a plan for spending. you just spend whatever you want to spend, whenever you want to spend it, however you want to spend it. …

The Day the Dow Jones Hits Zero
Robert Jeffress, 2026-08-24

… stocks, in their possessions. In Proverbs 23 verse 5, Solomon, the richest man of his day said, cast but a glance at riches and they fly away for they will surely sprout wings and fly away like an eagle. Have you ever had that happen with your money? One day you have it, the next day just kind of flies away. It disappears. That is how transitory wealth is. It can disappear overnight. What's the result of God's judgment? Look beginning at verse 9, the anguish over the destruction of Babylon. First of all, the anguish of the kings. Verse 9, and the kings of the earth who committed acts of immorality and lived sensuously with her will weep and lament over her when they see the smoke of her burning, standing at a distance because of the fear of her torment, saying, woe, woe, the great city Babylon, the strong city, for in one hour your judgment has come. There's great anguish with the 10 kings, the rulers, as they see the economic system destroyed. …

… in Ecclesiastes, Solomon taught, for example, don't worship money because it can be easily lost. In Proverbs 23, verses four and five, we read, do not worry yourself to gain wealth. Cease from your consideration of it. When you set your eyes on money, it is gone for wealth certainly makes itself wings and like an eagle that flies toward the heavens. Money can increase stress, Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 5.12, he said, the sleep of the working man is pleasant, whether he eats little or much. The person who doesn't have a lot, he's able to sleep at night. He's not worried about his finances and what he's going to do with all of his money, but the full stomach of the rich man does not allow him to sleep. Solomon said, money can rob us of present joy in this life. In Ecclesiastes 5.13, he said, there is a grievous evil, which I've seen under the sun, riches being hoarded by their owner to his hurt. So given the benefits of money and also the limitations of money, Proverbs tells us what a reasonable goal for us ought to be in our finances. …

Relaxing in God's Goodness - Part 1
Rick Warren, 2026-07-13

… And yet the Bible says not to do this. Proverbs 23 verse 4 and 5 warns us about materialism and it says this do not wear yourself out trying to get rich have the wisdom to show some restraint your money can be gone in a flash as if it had grown wings and flown away like an eagle you know you can lose your money Don't spend all of your life trying to get something you could lose so quickly. You can fly away like an eagle. Now, evidently, America's founding fathers wanted you to remember this because they put an eagle on every dollar bill. As a reminder of this verse. It has been my observation, having counseled thousands of people, that we spend the first half of our life sacrificing our health, overworking, in order to get wealth. And we spend the second half of our life sacrificing wealth in order to get our health back. Have you ever thought about that? The first half of life, you give up your health in overworked in order to get wealth. …

… web. Verse 19, he lies down rich but never again. He opens his eyes and it is no more. I love the proverb that says, won't you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings. They fly away as an eagle toward heaven. There go the riches. So it is with the wicked. You say, what do you mean a wicked? Mine flew away in the last couple of years as well. Riches don't hang around, do they? And when the wicked get rich, he says, they will not ultimately triumph. Rest assured, God knows. God keeps the right record. He knows what he's about. He knows who is righteous and who is wicked. He's keeping the score. It's easy for that to get confused if you watch too much CNN. Okay, let me just say it. Be very discerning what you watch and what you read. Be very sure that the source is reliable. There are still some very straight-thinking people inside the beltway. Not a lot of them, but there are still some who are still thinking straight. It's a pleasure at times to hear from some. Reminds me that the wicked will not ultimately triumph. I got an email from Gary Bauer this past week. I'll tell you, Gary is a straight-thinking guy. Allow me. It is hard to believe that one year has passed since the vicious attacks on our country by radical Islamists in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. The word tragedy is being …

… Put this verse down. Proverbs chapter 23 and verse 5, Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings. They fly away as an eagle toward the heaven. Money talks all right. It says goodbye. I mean, you cannot keep it. You cannot keep it. And, and if you don't have any treasure in heaven, really, how rich are you? Everything that you have that you think is yours, in a material sense, sooner or later, you're going to leave. That's what the Bible says. Riches make themselves wings. Some time ago when, when the bottom fell out of the oil market, I heard of a woman walking down the streets of Dallas, Texas. She heard a noise on the ground, a little voice. She looked around. She couldn't imagine who it was that was speaking, but some little voice down there low behind. And she looks down and she picks up a frog off the ground and it's a frog that's talking. …
