… and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs three, verse nine, honor God with the first fruits of all your wealth and your barns will overflow with plenty and your vats will burst with new wine. Those are biblical principles that are generally true. And if you live by them, generally speaking, your life will turn out well more often than not. But more importantly, Solomon says, the other reason that you should pursue wisdom, it's because wise living is its own reward. Even when things don't work out exactly like you think they should, living in a way that pleases God has its own rewards. Wise living may not always lead you to an easy life, you see, but foolish living will always lead you to a tragic one. Solomon is pretty dogmatic about this. In fact, look at what he says in the first verse of this chapter. Dead flies make a perfumer's oil stink. So a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor. Here you got this beautiful, awesome smelling perfume, but it's got some dead bugs floating in it, which by the way, would have made all of it ferment, which would have made the whole thing smell putrid. …

… It will be health to your flesh and strength to your bones. Honor the Lord with your possessions and with the firstfruits of your increase. So Barnes will be filled. with plenty and our vats will overflow with new wine. Father, we pray that you would cause your word this practical portion of Proverbs. I guess the entire, every verse of Proverbs is practical. It's the practical book. But Father, we pray that today we would learn not only so much about what it is that you've given us, but Lord, that we would know so much about how to manage what it is you've given us from time, health, a penny in our pocket. to the focusing of our attention. All of these things have been loaned to us and we're responsible for what we do with them. So Father, we ask now for your teaching to be in and through us. We pray in Jesus' name and all God's people said, Amen. You may be seated, church. Here's some interesting statistics for you as we get into this study today. …

… is overlooked by so many people and so many Christians and explains why so many Christians have trouble with their finances. Listen to Proverbs 3 verses 9 to 10. Honor the Lord from your wealth and from the first of all of your produce so that your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will be overcome with new wine. These verses are not a blanket promise that if you give to God, you will automatically be financially wealthy. If that were the case, If giving to God ensured and promised that you would always 100% of the time be financially successful, then giving would not be a matter of making an offering. It would be making a wise investment, wouldn't it? Nevertheless, as you look through the whole counsel of God on this subject of giving, you find that more often than not, God promises to bless those who give and to judge those who withhold from him. In fact, not to give what belongs to God, God calls robbery. …

… Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce. Then your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will be bursting with wine or non-alcoholic welches, grapes, used for us Baptists. one of the things I've heard Pastor Brian say is that if he had to list out a short explanation of why he believed in God, yeah, he'd talk about the resurrection, he'd talk about the fulfilled prophecies, but he says God's faithfulness to this promise would be in that list, experiencing firsthand how God multiplied and blessed him when he put God first in his giving. And y'all, I 100% agree. I have seen God be faithful in this way again and again and again in my life and in the lives of many of you who've told me your stories. So yes, in every way would include financial enrichment, but does it, listen, does it mean only or even primarily financial enrichment? No. Paul said in every way, which means there are other ways that God blesses you through your generosity. …

… is premium and priority. Look at the book of Proverbs. Watch what God says. Proverbs chapter three, honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce. Then your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will be bursting with wine. You know what I'm saying? You don't have a barn. I don't got a barn. We don't have vats. We don't even know what vats are. We read vats and we were like, yeah, it's good. Yeah. Chat, what's a vat? It's not literal. It's figurative. God is saying, I will bless you beyond your wildest dreams when you honor me with the first of your fruits when you put me first in your life. So listen, when I put God first in my life, it is not a finance thing. It is a heart thing. Write down number two. Everything starts with heart. This is a heart agenda. This is a heart issue. Money, when it comes to money and God, we realize, we recognize this has to do with my heart more than anything else in the world. And so God starts and deals with our heart, not our finances. He touches my heart. He changes my heart. It was so cool this last week. I got an opportunity to preach in Chicago. I was in Chicago this last week, and I love Chicago. I was with one of my dear friends, Pastor Kent Muncy, City Church, Chicago, downtown Chicago. And after the service, we had a great service. After the service, my friend, we've been friends for 20 years. …

… and Savior, Jesus Christ. I'll tell you the third thing. You need to give him, friend, the first fruits of all your income. Proverbs chapter 3, Proverbs chapter 3, verses 9 and 10, Honor the Lord with thy substance and with the firstfruits of all thine increase. That doesn't mean after you've paid your grocery bill and after you've paid the mortgage and after you've paid Sears and after you've done this and this and this, then you see what you have left to give to God. What a disgrace. What a disgrace. Suppose you invited me to your house and there's a lovely cake there and you give a piece to everybody else and then there's some crumbs on the plate and you say, that's what's left, pastor. That's for you. WE'RE GIVING GOD THE LEFTOVERS. WE'RE GIVING GOD THE CRUBS. WE GIVE THIS THING AND WE GIVE THIS THING AND WE PAY THAT BILL AND WE PAY THAT BILL. FRIEND, YOU HONOR GOD WITH THE FIRSTFRUITS OF ALL YOUR INCREASES. YOU TAKE GOD'S PART FIRST, FIRST, NOT SECOND, FIRST. …
