… Who is it that is the builder of this new city? He said, I am the alpha and omega. That's the same description Jesus used of himself in Revelation 1.8. Alpha, the first letter of the Greek alphabet, Omega, the last. I'm the beginning and the end. I am all in all. What I want you to see is Jesus Christ, the son of God is the one who designs and builds this new city. You see, when Jesus left this world after his resurrection, he went into heaven and he went back to heaven for two reasons. Right now, Jesus is doing two things for your benefit. First of all, he is praying for you. He is interceding to God, his father on your half and my behalf. Hebrews 7, 25 says he lives to make intercession for us forever. But the only thing he's doing is not praying. He's doing something else as well. He's building a new home for you. Jesus is the architect of this new city called the new Jerusalem. And I guess it's good that he was a carpenter. He knows how to build things. He's just going to come in handy in this new heaven and this new earth. Who are going to be the inhabitants of this city, the new Jerusalem? Let's look and see how God answers that question in verse seven, he who overcomes will inherit these things and I will be his God and he will be my son. The only people who are going to have a place in this new Jerusalem are those who are …
… Amen. Behold, he is coming with the clouds and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him and all the tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so, amen. I am the alpha and the omega says the Lord God who is and who was and who is to come the almighty. I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus. I was on When the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus, I was in the spirit on the Lord's day. And I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet saying, write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna, to Pergamon and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea. Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me. And on turning, I saw seven golden lampstands. …
… He entered into His own creation to save us. Revelation 1.8, this is Jesus speaking to the Apostle John. Jesus says, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, says the Lord, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. That's Jesus, the eternal Christ, the Son of God, uncreated, self-existent. And a personal favorite of mine on this topic of Jesus being eternal is John chapter 8, verses 52 through 59, more specifically verse 58. We see here in John 8, Then the Jews said to him, Now we know you have a demon. Abraham is dead, and the prophets. And you say, If anyone keeps my word, he shall never taste death. Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead? Who do you make yourself out to be? Jesus answered, If I honor myself, my honor is nothing. It is my father who honors me. of whom you say that he is your God. Yet you have not known him, but I know him. …
… We see this in Revelation 1 where he says the very same phrases. He says, I am the Alpha and the Omega. And he says later, I am the beginning and the end. He says in Revelation 1, I am the one who was and who is and who is to come. So he opens Revelation with I am the Alpha Omega. He ends Revelation with, I am the Alpha and the Omega. He wants us to know that the way it all goes down is, I start it and I end it. Anybody know the first verse of the Bible? Hello? Anybody know the very first verse in Genesis 1? Anybody? Come on, take a shot at it. Let's see a show of hands. Anybody? I got no hands. I got nobody that knows that. Okay, what is the very first book of the Bible? First verse, first words. Anybody? Say it all if you know it. In the beginning. I like how it kind of faded off there at the end. …
… Amen. I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." Now beginning in the first verse, we'll just look at some of the foundational elements. First of all, the nature of this book is indicated in the word revelation, apocalipsis. It is an unveiling. It is a revelation. It is taking the cover off. It is telling us things that have never been told before. It's a revealing. Some people assume that the book of Revelation is supposed to hide things. That's the opposite of it. It is a full disclosure, an unveiling, taking the cover off concerning God's plan for the end of His redemptive story. The theme immediately, the revelation of Jesus Christ. This is a book about Jesus Christ. It is Christ unveiled, Christ uncovered, Christ manifested in second coming glory. We saw Him in His humanity, veiled was His glory when He walked the earth, and here you see His unveiled, uncovered, full glory on display. …

Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands. And in the midst of the lampstands was one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. …
… in a kind of symbolic way. Every eye will see him. The conservative churches have said, yes, we take this as a real historic, actual future event. But the conservative churches have tended to obsess on when will it be? What year will it be? What will the signs be? So that we can predict his coming. Now, not only did Jesus repeatedly say, no one knows the day or the hour, Nobody knows when that's going to be. In fact, Jesus, when he was on earth, said even he didn't at the time know when it would be. But to even try to guess shows that you don't understand how this doctrine is supposed to really shape our lives. So what is this doctrine? Well, take a look here. Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him, so may it be. Amen. Now, all Bible scholars over the years have said that the book of Revelation, more than any other New Testament book, draws on Old Testament imagery. …
