… world to the way it was in Eden, to its Edenic state. And we are made to dwell here forever and ever. Notice in verse three, John says, and I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, behold, the tabernacle of God is among men and God will dwell among them and they shall be his people and God himself will be among them. John says, I saw this new heaven and new earth coming and I saw the new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven to earth. Listen, our ultimate destiny is not for us to go up there somewhere where God is. John says, instead, I saw the tabernacle of God coming down so God could dwell here with men. You and I weren't created for up there. We're created for down here. I think of Dr. Criswell's words about that. He said, if I thought I was going to be sentenced to some planet a hundred million miles away that I know nothing about, I couldn't get excited about that. I love this world. I'm created for this world. …

Also on either side of the river, the tree of life with its 12 kinds of fruit yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of that tree were for the healing of the nations. … Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people. God himself will be with them and be their God, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Amen. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, what a blessing to get a sneak peek into the future and all that you have prepared for those who love you. In heaven, in this place that Jesus said he would go and prepare for us. We so look forward to that future. And God, now as we consider these words and other related scripture, we pray that your Holy Spirit would teach us. We pray that you would encourage our hearts, that you would build us up in the faith, God, that you would lead us into the truth. …

… Here's how Revelation 21 describes heaven. Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them. They will be his people. God himself will be with them as their God. You see that language? God with us three different times. It's Emmanuel. And at this time when he comes to be with us, he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death shall be no more. Neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. Mark it down. See all the tense there. It's all future. He will wipe away. Death will be no more. Neither mourning, crying, or pain. … back swings open. I see my bride step forward, dressed in white. All the emotions, all the exhilaration. And this is the image God gives us of heaven coming to us. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them. They will be his people. God himself will be with them as their God, and he will wipe away every tear from their eyes. And death shall be no more. Neither shall every mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. He will dwell with them. They will be his people. God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death shall be no more, no more mourning, no more crying, no pain. The former things have passed away. And then Revelation 22 says, the angel showed me the river, just like Eden of the water of life, bright as crystal flowing from the throne of God and of the lamb through the middle of the street of the city. Also on either side of the river, the tree of life. There it is. It's back from Genesis chapter two. First time we see it come back. Now it's here with 12 kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month, and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. …

Where are you going to be when you go to heaven? In the presence of God. Around the throne. His presence will cover you. He will cover you like a canopy of Shekinah shelter with His glory over you so that you enjoy the immediate reality of His glorious presence. Now, remember, God is a spirit. God is invisible. But in some way, His Shekinah presence will literally cover all of those in heaven gathered around His throne. So that we are in the fullness of His presence, in the midst of His glory forever. And then finally, provision. Verse 16 says, They will hunger no longer. Not only do we get protection from His presence, but provision. They will hunger no longer, nor thirst any more. …
It certainly far exceeds anything that any earthly bride has ever dreamed of wearing. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, Now the dwelling of God is with men, and He He will live with them and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God." When Jesus was born, He was named Emmanuel, which meant God with us. When John says, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, he used the language of tenting. The literal meaning of the text is He pitched His tent in our midst. Again for a nomadic people to have the Creator not isolated and remote and removed from His experience absent to His daily life, but to have His tent right next to Him. The tabernacle was called the tent of meeting, the place where the Jewish people would come to enter into the presence of God. …
