… be the inhabitants of this city, the new Jerusalem? Let's look and see how God answers that question in verse seven, he who overcomes will inherit these things and I will be his God and he will be my son. The only people who are going to have a place in this new Jerusalem are those who are overcomers. The term overcomers is used by John to refer to all believers, all true believers in Christ. But notice who will not be a part of the kingdom of God. Don't let anybody tell you that everybody's going to heaven. Everybody is not going to be in heaven. And in verse eight, John explains who's not going to be there. But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. Wait a minute, pastor, are you saying if anyone has done any of these things, he can't go to heaven? If that's true, then nobody's going to be in heaven because all of us are guilty of one of these sins, at least, if not in deed and mind and heart. And Jesus says, that's the same thing as committing these sins to want to commit these sins. No, this passage is not saying that if you've ever done one of these things, you can't be saved. Listen to me. I don't care what sin you've committed, how long you've committed it, how deep the stain of your sin. If you have trusted in the blood of …

… I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things. I will be his God and he shall be my child. Clap your hands and rejoice. The Bible leaves us in breathless wonder of what awaits us in a place that is called heaven. In the Bible, we're told that Paul in 2 Corinthians 12 took a trip. by God, he was taken and he said, whether I went in the spirit or I went in the body, I cannot tell, which is an amazing little insight there that people can go to heaven in their spirit. Of course, when they die, it goes to heaven, but people also can be taken by God, the physical body to heaven and have an insight like he got. And he said, I went to heaven. I saw it. I saw things. And then he made this statement. I saw things that are not lawful to even utter. I saw, and I was forbidden by the angel. You are not to tell this and you're not to write this. God has some sacred secrets that he's holding back in the place called heaven. …
… I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be my son. How do you overcome? Well, John writes in his epistle that faith is the instrument by which we overcome, putting our faith in the Lord. So to those who have put their trust in Him, we will be given everything we need from the springs of the water of life without cost. we will overcome insofar as our faith grasps salvation and thus inherit all things, and I will be his God and he will be my son. And then shattering verse 8, starkly in contrast to all those heavenly promises, but for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. That's stunning. It's one of the two for you, for everyone. …
… And Scripture is faithful, Titus 1, 9, holding fast the faithful word. Revelation 21.5 and 22.6, these words are faithful and true. God is faithful. Christ is faithful. And Scripture, therefore, is faithful. And then the ministers of that Scripture and the servants of God and Christ must be defined by faithfulness. Faithfulness in what sense? to Christ in their relationship with Him, and faithful to Scripture in their handling of divine revelation. The commendation of faithfulness is given to a number of people in the New Testament. Timothy in 1 Corinthians 4, 17, you're in that chapter. Go down to the bottom, sort of the bottom of the chapter, verse 17. For this reason, Paul says, I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ. I walk with Christ and in Christ. Timothy follows me in doing the same, therefore he is faithful. He will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, and he will remind you of what I teach. …
