But to the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”But for the cowardly, unbelieving, sinners, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their part is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. But for the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part shall be in the lake that burneth with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.

… everybody's going to heaven. Everybody is not going to be in heaven. And in verse eight, John explains who's not going to be there. But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. Wait a minute, pastor, are you saying if anyone has done any of these things, he can't go to heaven? If that's true, then nobody's going to be in heaven because all of us are guilty of one of these sins, at least, if not in deed and mind and heart. And Jesus says, that's the same thing as committing these sins to want to commit these sins. No, this passage is not saying that if you've ever done one of these things, you can't be saved. Listen to me. I don't care what sin you've committed, how long you've committed it, how deep the stain of your sin. If you have trusted in the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse you, to forgive you, you are saved and secure forever. You have a place in heaven. That is the gospel of Jesus Christ. There is no sin you can commit for which you cannot be forgiven. But if you've truly repented of that sin, if you've truly asked for God's forgiveness from that sin, you are not going to go back and regularly practice that sin. …
… starkly in contrast to all those heavenly promises, but for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. That's stunning. It's one of the two for you, for everyone. It's either heaven and all the joys of heaven, as it will be for the tribulation saints and the glorified church, or it's the lake that burns everlastingly with fire and brimstone. that's the choice. You have to wonder how it is that God can promise us such bliss in heaven and people can reject it and choose hell. But they do. Some of you do. That's why we're still here as a church. Our Lord said, go and preach the gospel. Preach the gospel to the whole world, to every creature. Tell them of the good news of heaven. Let's bow in prayer. We feel so inadequate in trying to explain heaven. …
… And Scripture is faithful, Titus 1, 9, holding fast the faithful word. Revelation 21.5 and 22.6, these words are faithful and true. God is faithful. Christ is faithful. And Scripture, therefore, is faithful. And then the ministers of that Scripture and the servants of God and Christ must be defined by faithfulness. Faithfulness in what sense? to Christ in their relationship with Him, and faithful to Scripture in their handling of divine revelation. The commendation of faithfulness is given to a number of people in the New Testament. Timothy in 1 Corinthians 4, 17, you're in that chapter. Go down to the bottom, sort of the bottom of the chapter, verse 17. For this reason, Paul says, I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ. I walk with Christ and in Christ. Timothy follows me in doing the same, therefore he is faithful. He will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, and he will remind you of what I teach. …
… Be warned. Down in verse 8 of chapter 21, for the cowardly and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars. Their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. You want to be a part of the first resurrection, right? The resurrection of the just, the resurrection of the righteous. One final word from Scripture, Hebrews 10, 26. If we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, you've heard the gospel, you know Christ alone saves, but you go on sinning willfully, rejecting, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sin. If you reject Christ, there's no sacrifice for sin, so you will bear your own sins to the judgment and pay for them forever. All you have left, if you go on sinning willfully, rejecting the knowledge of the truth, the gospel, all you have left is a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries. …
… Revelation 21, this beautiful section of Scripture that gives us a glimpse of heaven. But listen carefully, Revelation 21, 8, but for the cowardly, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and immoral persons, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars. Their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. I said it earlier, I'll say it again. Hell is full of liars. Heaven is full of forgiven liars who were transformed into the people of the truth. You're told there that there won't be liars in heaven, because all liars will be in hell, all of them. Chapter 22 of Revelation, amazing that the specific issue of lying goes right to the end of Holy Scripture. Verse 14, "'Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter by the gates into the city.'" This is the heavenly city. are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters." Same list as chapter 21, verse 8. …
