… Jesus shows up to town and he puts the enemy in his place. He's like, this liar has been around for long enough. Listen, he came riding on a white horse in Revelation chapter 6 verses 1 and 2, and he went out to conquer, but this is the real conqueror, and he is faithful and true, and he has showed up. Do you guys remember Robin Hood, that old 1976 version of Robin Hood that Disney put out, and there was like Prince John always sucking on his thumb and like ruling the land, and he was always being miserable to everyone, and everyone hated him, but he was important because he was wearing the crown for the time being, and then finally King Richard comes back and he's like all brave and huge and he's got a mane that puts everyone to shame and he shows up and then Prince John's all of a sudden like, ooh, I've got a skedaddle. I'm out of here, right? Or like, we think about the Lion King. You've got Scar who's ruling the land. The pride lands are desolate and there's destruction and there's fire and there's pain. And then Simba finally, righteously takes his rightful place on the throne and he establishes rule and he says out with the invader the imposer the fake the real king has arrived I don't know why I'm so obsessed with lions and kids cartoons and how that's where my illustrations come from maybe you saw the odyssey recently I was like tempted I was like okay well here's like a human illustration but it's still …
… Chapter 6, verse 1, I'll read down to chapter 6, verse 8. Then I saw when the Lamb broke one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying, as with the voice of thunder, Come. I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow, and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering him to conquer. When he broke the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, Come. And another a red horse went out, and to him who sat on it it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another, and the great sword was given to him. When he broke the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, Come. I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard something like a voice in the center of the four living creatures saying, a quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius, and do not damage the oil and the wine. …
As we come to chapter 6, the first seal is in the opening two verses. I'm just going to read those two verses for you this morning. Then I saw when the Lamb broke one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures, those are angels as we learn from chapters 4 and 5, one of those four living creatures saying as with a voice of thunder, come, come. And that is a call under this seal to what occurs in verse 2. I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow, and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer. That is the beginning of the end. After the church has been removed from the world, that is how the final period of human history begins, the first seal. Now we're going to have to back up to get a running start on this and look at a number of portions of Scripture. But what is being represented there is essentially the arrival of world peace. You have a white horse, which was ridden by a conqueror. You have him conquering and to conquer. You have him with a bow, but no arrows, which means this is not a war. He does not take authority by force, but rather the white horse and the rider, a bow without arrows, receives from the world a crown given to Him, and He is therefore installed with full authority. …
Thank you. Now I watched when the lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say with a voice like thunder, come. And I looked and behold a white horse, and its rider had a bow and a crown was given to him, and he came out conquering and to conquer. When he opened the second seal I heard the second living creature say, come. Out came another horse, bright red. Its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth so that people should slay one another, and he was given a great sword. When he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, Come! And I looked, and behold, a black horse, and its rider had a pair of scales in his hand, and I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius, Do not harm the oil and wine. …
