Sermons on Revelation 7:9

After this I looked and saw a multitude too large to count, from every nation and tribe and people and tongue, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands.After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could count, out of every nation and of all tribes, peoples, and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands.After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;After these things I saw, and behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, out of every nation and of all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, arrayed in white robes, and palms in their hands;

… His vision shifts from looking at earth and now he's looking into heaven. after these things, after the 144,000, I looked and behold a great multitude, which no one could count from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues standing before the throne and before the lamb clothed in white robes and palm branches in their hands. Suddenly he sees a whole mass of people that can't be counted. Jews and Gentiles alike who are standing before the throne of God, meaning they are saved. And not only that, they're in white robes, meaning they've been forgiven and palm branches, a sign of victory. And they cry out with a loud voice saying, salvation to our God who sits on the throne and to the lamb. And all the angels were standing around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures. And they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God saying, amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever. Amen. Who are these multitudes that come from every tribe, every nation under earth? This is part of the greatest revival the world will have ever seen. These are those who are saved during the tribulation through the witness of the 144,000. It's going to be something like the world has never experienced before. Look at verses 13 and 14. John answers it clearly. Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, these who are clothed in white robes, who are they? And where have they come from? And I said …

Early Warning Signs
Robert Jeffress, 2026-08-03

… is none like it, for it's the time of Jacob's distress, but he will be saved from it. During the tribulation, you'll see many Gentiles saved, Revelation 7 verse 9, but you'll also see a multitude of Jews who will be saved. It's a redemptive purpose for the tribulation. It is a time for the salvation of the elect. And secondly, it's a time for the condemnation of the lost. A holy God cannot allow evil to go unpunished. And this is a time for God to pour out his wrath on unbelievers. Isaiah 26 verse 21, for behold, the Lord is about to come out from his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. And the earth will reveal her bloodshed and will no longer cover her stain. Let me just say this about an overview of the tribulation judgments. As we're going to see in the weeks ahead, these judgments are actually a series of three different judgments. There are the seven seals that are mentioned in Revelation 6. …

It's for everybody, everybody. We read in the book of Revelation chapter 7 verse 9 that there is going to be a great multitude in heaven that no one could number from all tribes, peoples, and languages. So the question is sometimes asked, what about the person in the middle of the desert who has never heard the gospel? Apparently these people are going to hear the gospel because every language, every tribe, every culture, every race is represented in heaven. So what's the explanation? Some people say, they're just drunk. This is what drunk people do all the time. Speaking languages they've never heard before giving glory to God. Most of the time you can't even understand what a drunk is saying. What a ridiculous explanation. But it reminds us of 1 Corinthians 2, 14. People who aren't spiritual can't receive these truths from God's Spirit. It sounds foolish to them and they can't understand it. But for those who are spiritual, they understand what the Spirit means. So God is getting ready now to change the world with 120 people. …

They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the lamb. He Loves You, and Not Just You
David Platt, 2026-03-11

… doesn't end in John 4. listen to these words that the same disciple of Jesus John later writes starting in Revelation chapter 7 verse 9 after this I looked and behold a great multitude that no one could number from every nation from all tribes and peoples and languages standing before the throne and before the lamb clothed in white robes with palm branches and their hands crying out with a loud voice salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb. It's a reference to Jesus, the Messiah. And then you keep going. Watch this, verse 13. One of the elders addressed me saying, who are these clothed in white robes? Where have they come? I said to him, sir, you know. He said to me, these are the ones coming out of the great tribulation in this world. They've washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb who's paid the price for their sin. Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in the temple and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. …

… We've got to keep pressing on where Christ has not been named among all the nations. then you get to the very end, Revelation chapter 7, verse 9 and 10. A great multitude that no one could number from every what? Nation, every tribe, every people, every language gathered around the throne of God, giving him glory for his salvation. That's where God has designed all of history to land, with him getting glory among all the nations. Do you see it? We're made to spread the glory of God to all the nations of the earth. This is why God has given us grace. Now, some of you might be thinking, wait a minute, are you saying that God has an ulterior motive in blessing me? That God shows grace to me as an ulterior motive and an ultimate motive beyond just me in that? And I want to be clear, that's not what I'm saying. That's what God is saying. you are not at the center of God's universe he is at the center of his universe some of you are thinking wait a minute God does all these things for his own glory isn't that self-centered of God you're saying God is self-centered and I want to be clear that's not what I'm saying it's what God is saying of course he centers around himself If it rubs you wrong that God lives to exalt himself, I would just ask the follow-up question, who else would you rather him exalt? …

A Missional Awakening
David Platt, 2025-12-10

… The Holy Spirit enables us to fulfill God's purpose. Well, can I remind you that Revelation chapter 7, verse 9 and 10 says, There is coming a day where a multitude from every nation, every tribe, every people, and every language will bow around the throne of Jesus Christ. and they will sing, salvation belongs to our God and to the Lamb who sits on the throne. That's the whole purpose. In all of eternity, there's going to be a day when people from Iran and Iraq and Lebanon and Israel and China and North Korea and Brazil and the United States are all going to gather around the throne and in all different languages, as one, we're going to sing praises to Christ. That's the purpose of God. And it was the purpose of God in Acts chapter 2 and it's still the purpose of God today. That's why the church in Brookhills cannot be content to reach Birmingham for Christ. We were created to impact all peoples, all languages, all nations with his glory and his goodness. …

Triumph in Christ I Javon Ruff
Javon Ruff, 2025-04-14

… of that land. It was a symbol of victory, often associated with great victory in biblical times. Even the apostle John in Revelation chapter 7 verse 9 said this, he said, and this, after this, I looked and there was a vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language, which no one could number standing before the throne and before the lamb. They were clothed in white robes with palm branches in their hand. These were those who were triumphant in the book of Revelation, clothed with white robes with palm branches in their hand. Psalms 92, he said this, the righteous shall flourish like a palm tree. Why am I telling you that? because the parallels is that like the Bible likens the believers in Christ to palm trees. He said the righteous shall flourish like a palm tree. What's interesting is the root system of a palm tree is known to be one of its greatest strength. They go down below deep into the soil where they find moisture way beyond the surface to continue to nourish and feed that palm tree so that it continues to produce fruit. …

The Coming Global Salvation (Revelation 7:9-17)
John MacArthur, 2024-04-07 · Scripture reading

… So let me read to you chapter 7, verse 9 through 17. these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues standing before the throne and before the Lamb clothed in white robes and palm branches were in their hands. And they cry out with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb. And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying, Amen. Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever. Amen. Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, These who are clothed in white robes, who are they, and where have they come from? I said to him, My Lord, you know. And he said to me, These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason they are before the throne of God, and they serve Him day and night in His temple, and He who sits on the throne will spread His tabernacle over them. …
