Tremble at God's Word
David Platt, 2026-09-30

… you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin, and you've become a slave to righteousness. I put this in human terms because you're weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and ever-increasing weakness, so now offer them enslavery to righteousness, leading to holiness. When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you're now ashamed of? Those things result in death. … also the bible speaks of fruit as being holy character holy living romans chapter 6 you have been set free from sin and you have your fruit unto holiness then as i mentioned just a few moments ago verbal praise is also seen as fruit hebrews 13 offer the sacrifice of praise that is the fruit of our lips. And then sometimes financial giving is considered fruitfulness. When Paul took an offering of the Gentile churches to bring to the church in Jerusalem in Romans 15, he said, I have sealed them to this fruit. Some 30, some 60, some a hundredfold. It is where the seed replicates itself through the fruit. So then the fruitfulness Jesus is speaking about here is bringing others into the kingdom, bringing others into the kingdom of God, bringing others to salvation, winning people to Christ. And so what I'd like to do as we continue on beginning in verse 21 down to verse 34 or thereabouts, I want to give you four features of fruit bearing believers. These are four characteristics of fruit bearing. Now this whole teaching of Jesus is based in an agrarian culture, an agricultural culture. …

… Whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness. You have been set free from sin, and you have become slaves to what? Righteousness. you've been set free so why in the world we would we go back to that old busted down broken self you didn't even like that version of you stop letting people capitalize and take advantage of your broken self stop letting people pull you down to who you used to be start stepping up into grace and saying i know I'm a broken mess, but I'd be lost without you. I'd be blind without you. Come on, praise him today. I'd be dead without you. If it weren't for grace, grace, grace, grace, grace gets on the inside and it, and it, it makes you a slave to righteousness. It makes you, I want to be planted in the house of God. I want to serve the house of God. I want to walk in truth. that's what I want grace is so powerful it would change your appetite I was talking to a young man in our church recently and he just got set free just came to grace he said I was about to do something bad with my girlfriend and I was like what do you mean he's like Say less. …
