For you did not receive a spirit of slavery that returns you to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption to sonship, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”For you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. For ye received not the spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

… tells us, there are as many as are led by the Spirit of God, the sons of God. You did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the spirit of adoption by which you cry, Abba Father. Here's what God wants you to think about. You are adopted, you are loved, and you are welcomed by God. This is important because sometimes we get discouraged. We feel like everyone's forgotten about us. Nobody cares about us. You are adopted by God. Is anybody here adopted? Any adopted people? I'm okay. I'm adopted. I'm adopted. And not only was I adopted by a man named Oscar Laurie who gave me his name Oscar. You didn't know that. No, it's Laurie. Which is spelled like a girl's name. Which I hated when I was younger. Especially when I was in military school because you go by your last name. So my name was Laurie. But now I love the name. But I didn't love it when I was younger. …
Well, there is a word. We'll be coming from Romans 8, verse 14 through 18. And I really encourage you in your free time to definitely study the chapter in its whole, for we will be feeding from it in its entirety. And to contextualize this question, And part of the reason why they're asking about our spiritual inheritance is because I talked about the inherited traits that we receive biologically and how we are predisposed to certain types of traits. But also recognizing that in our spiritual inheritance that we have some powers and authority and offerings that only come from our relationship with God through Jesus that allows us to have power and strength and peace. And so Romans 8 chapters 14 through 17 says, for if you live according to the flesh, you will die. Okay, let's take a minute and just let that marinate for a minute. So if we talk about living according to the flesh, of course, we talk about the spirit versus the flesh in church a lot. And, you know, you got to kill your flesh. …
