Thank you. I'm preaching this morning. The part two to what I started last week on how to redeem your family name. You can redeem your family name. When you think of a family, you think of a name. Instantly, something is attached to that family name.

57 And what will be your legacy? I'm preaching today a story I have never preached on until last Sunday and this Sunday and all the years that I've been preaching. And the more that I look into it, the more I see. I saw in the scripture the fact that God can break cycles in families. that just because a father decides to rebel against God doesn't mean that the rest of the family, the seed, the sons, the daughters have to go that direction. The story is told and set in Numbers chapter 16, and we'll get to it in just a moment. But these two young, we think that it was two young boys, two sons of Korah, are noticing an increasing negative, bitter anger, spirit, constant complaining.

05 And they're powerless to stop their once spiritual father, once mightily anointed and used of God, Father, who has now become resentful and bitter and offended and hurt at Moses, at Aaron, and at God himself. They're powerless to stop their father's wounded spirit. The Bible talks about, in one of the books, that the fathers eat grapes and the children suffer the sourness of those grapes. They eat sour grapes and the children are affected by the sour grapes that the fathers eat. This is an amazing story of the potential for that to happen, but these sons are watching their father being transformed into a monster, An angry, angry man who is upset at everything about the house of God.

12 Their father was the cousin of Moses and Aaron. He was of the chosen by God tribe of Levi. He and his family to be chosen, handpicked, cut out, separated from the rest of the congregation. and chosen to be leaders in the tabernacle in the wilderness. The sacred duty, every time that the tabernacle moved, he had to pack it up and he was the one that was given the specific different tribes, had different things that they were to do when they were moving through the wilderness. But it was the Korah and his family who had the items, the furniture, the holy furniture that was declared by God Almighty. These things are so holy that if any unauthorized person even touches the brazen altar, even touches the brazen wash pan, even touches the incense altar, If anyone unauthorized, the only ones that I trust and authorize to touch these things is Korah and his family.

31 What an honor to be chosen. And God gave specific instructions. He said, now, all the other stuff that's being packed up, the tents and the tabernacle and all these things that they had, this tribe will do this and this tribe will do that. and they can have carts and they can have an ox and they can put their heavy stuff on the cart and carry it through the wilderness and they can let the ox pull the items on the cart. But when it comes to these holy things that Korah and his family are over, they are to take staves and put them through the golden rings and he and his family only are to get up under the weight because ministry is a burden to carry.

28 It never leaves you. If a man, a woman, a pastor, and we have many of them at every campus, youth pastors and their wives and their children, It is inescapable that there is a burden on our life that is very different from others. There is a way that people perceive and look at us. Even when you try to get away from it, there is a burden. Even, again, not just senior pastors or youth pastors, but worship pastors. The weekend rolls around and a mood swings. When something happens, you never become a normal person on the weekend like everybody else. Even when I'm on vacation, I feel the weight, the burden. God says, if you're going to receive the blessings of the ministry, you have to be under the burden of the ministry.

30 You can't have the blessings without getting under the burden. And it is a burden. but my goodness to be chosen by God to be cut out and not only Korah but his family what a privilege what a what an honor that God would use somebody anybody that he would pick and hand choose and give talents and gifts and responsibilities and say now this is going to be a heavy load physically and spiritually on your life, on your family, on everybody associated with you. There is a price to pay. But you carry my glory. and when you understand that, this unique privilege, but something happened after years and years of doing it under the burden.

34 Something flipped in Korah, and he noticed Aaron getting the priest, getting to do certain things that he didn't have to get up under the load. And Moses, but what you don't know is they have their own load. You don't know what they're dealing with. You don't know. Just do what God's called you to do. Run in your lane.

01 But here he is now. He becomes envious. And not only that, he becomes bitter in his spirit because he and his family have to carry things through the dead. Can you imagine, really? Have you ever been like in Arizona somewhere in a desert? It's not easy. And then to carry stuff while moving miles a day, it's a burden. The ministry hadn't changed. The heart of the minister had become offended. And any time the heart of the minister becomes offended, then they begin to look at others and say, why does my family have to go through this and their family doesn't? Why does my family have to be like this and their families don't have to be like this? And then something else happened.

55 This is all given in the scripture. I'm not going to take time just to... Please read these stories, number 16. You should read it for yourself this week and study it. But what happened was two men began to influence Korah. They came into his life, Dathan and Byram, and they began to stir up the wrong spirit, the wrong attitude about ministry. And they told him, you're being overlooked and you're not being treated fair. And look at all of Moses. He thinks he's it. He thinks he's something else. He thinks he's a big deal. and they begin to criticize continually over and over and it begins to spread like a plague throughout the whole congregation of Israel. They get 250 of the most prestigious, the Bible called them famous people, famous people in number 16 and they rose up with Korah, with these other two leaders but you need to remember something that attitude shift, the attitude soured.

05 The words became criticism continually, continually on Korah. That is the spirit of Korah. Look at Moses. Look at Aaron. What was once seen as a privilege became a problem. What was once considered a blessing became a burden too heavy to bear. What once was a high honor is now an inconvenient, inconvenience and something that's not worth it. I don't want to do it. Nothing had changed but Korah's attitude. Why does my family have to walk and everybody else gets the ride? Why do we have to carry everything? Why is my family carrying burdens that no other family has to carry. A root of bitterness, a root of offense gets inside of him. And Moses, every time his name comes up in the family, he's being criticized. The sons of Korah. Now listen, listen, your children are watching you. If you're a parent, your children are watching your spirit.

16 they're infectious our spirits, our attitudes are absolutely infectious and the sons of Korah are watching their dead become a monster right before their eyes Korah has chosen fools for his companions men who mock God and mock his leaders these two men, Byroman and the other, Daphon they were fools And the Bible said in Proverbs 17, 17, that the companion of fools shall be destroyed. So it's not just the fools that get destroyed. It didn't say the fools will get destroyed. It said the companions with him, the shrapnel from being around fools and stupid people who do nothing but... Oh, yeah, I said it. If you do nothing but criticize the house of God, leadership, preachers, and Bible and Christians, And you need to understand you are the companion of fools.

20 And if you like to hang out with those people, you are the companion of fools. And when they go down, it's going to hit you too. Preaching better than you're letting on. The whole atmosphere of the family of Korah changes in the home. The outburst of anger. Cut it with a knife tension. they could not stop talking about what had offended them. Look at Moses. Look at him. Makes me sick. Now he's picking up stuff, but it's not a joy anymore. It's not, I can't believe I get to do this. I can't believe I get to, man, I'm working for the king of glory. I'm carrying the beautiful tights and pictures of everything that will come in the flesh. God manifests Jesus Christ is in every one of those anointed, consecrated pieces of furniture. And me and my family are chosen to stand before the congregation and take these powerful types and shadows and show, really, they were showing Jesus is coming.

27 but instead now the spirit is angry and nobody could reason with Korah. Nobody could stop the flood of criticism. Nobody could stop the fire of bitterness as it was consuming and he was totally, totally, totally out of control.

48 Listen, three things. He's losing his ministry, but he's not concerned. He's rebelling against God and he's not alarmed. He's hurting his own family and he doesn't even care anymore. It was his innocent sons who are watching it unfold. They're watching their daddy get around the wrong people. They're watching them in gossip sessions attack and criticize and say horrible things about everything in the tabernacle. And the sons are watching this metamorphosis of what was once a very powerful spiritual family. Now take on the name of rebellion. one man's offense so erupts that it spreads throughout the whole congregation.

47 And then they charge the tabernacle and Moses and Aaron are there and you pick up the story. And the scripture said in verse 3 of number 16, and they rose up before Moses was certain of the children of Israel, 250 princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown. And they gathered themselves together. Now watch the arrogance. Watch, watch. They forgot. This is, watch. And they gathered themselves together against Moses, against Aaron. And they said, you take too much upon you, seeing that all, don't you know that all the congregation are holy? You're nothing special. You make me... Look at them. Look at them.

38 Every one of us can do what you do. The Lord is among them. And it's not about Moses. It's about the fact God chose Moses. He didn't choose himself. God chose him. He was a flawed man, but God chose him. God said, that's my friend you're talking about in one place in this story. Watch. He said, you lift yourself up above the congregation of the Lord. Watch Moses. He had the right spirit. The Bible said he fell on his face. And he spoke unto Korah.

17 And he says these words in verse 9. Is it a small thing? Seemeth it a small thing unto you? Listen. Have you forgotten where you came from? Have you forgotten? Have you forgotten? Listen to what he says. Is it a small thing to you that the God of Israel separated you from the congregation to bring you near to himself, to do service of the tabernacle of the Lord, to stand before the congregation, to minister unto them? and he brought thee near to him and all your brethren and all your family, the Levites. And now are you so called up that you are seeking the priesthood? You're wanting to tell God he made a mistake with Aaron and Moses and shouldn't have chosen them and they should be just moved and I should be.

17 I'm tired of being ignored. I'm tired of people. Do you see the bitterness in that? And, and, and, and, and, and I don't know about you, but it's, it's not a small thing to me. What I'm doing right now. It's not a small thing. It's a fearful thing. It's a heavy thing, but it's also a joyful thing. I mean, there was a time when I wondered, would I ever get to even preach? And now I preach to thousands of people and it's not a small thing now. I have not got used to it. I love that song. Will you meet with me again? I can't do it. Will you come one more time, Holy Spirit? This is not something man takes unto himself. You cannot recreate this with a seven-year plan. It takes the Holy Ghost.

13 It takes the power to hit that upper room. It takes fasting and prayer and being a friend of God and pulling yourself away and carrying a burden and it wakes you up in the middle of the night and it comes on you and you see faces and you hear things and you write things and it comes from God.

33 It's a big deal. When you begin to make it a little thing, it offends God. I have never preached on this story, but it is, in my opinion, the worst thing that ever happened in the Old Testament is happening right here. Thank you. And Moses, verse 12, sent for Dathan and Abiram, and listened to their spirit. And they said, listen to the pride. Listen to the arrogance toward spiritual, really important. God has chosen these people.

19 We're not coming up to you. We won't come. All of us need, including this preacher, to remember. that we don't, God does not, he's not interested in our rebellious attitude. And whom the Lord loves, if you don't straighten it out, the Lord will whip you.

47 Whom the Lord loveth, he whippeth. that's a Bible verse Turn to somebody and say, you might need a good whipping. I'm getting there. Give me a minute. They wouldn't even meet with Moses. they said, you take too much on you. They start mocking him. And then they said something unbelievable. These two men said, you, Moses, you, we were in Egypt. They called it the land. Throw that verse up.

38 They called it, you brought us out of the land flowing. Can you just put that one verse? There it is. Floweth with milk. You brought us into this land that floweth with milk and honey. It's a small thing. I've got it in my Bible. Listen to what he said. The sons of Korah spoke, and they said, you need to understand.

14 In verse 13, is it a small thing that you have brought us out of the land flowing with milk and honey? You brought us out of Egypt, and they're calling the world milk and honey. to kill us in the wilderness so you could make yourself a prince over us. Wow. It's all about you. You're just a prince, Moses, aren't you? You got us out here suffering in the wilderness. We were in the land. This is how you know you're hanging out with the wrong people. When all they do is criticize the church and they call the world the land flowing with milk and honey, they call the party life flowing with milk and honey, They call rebellion flowing with milk and honey. They say the world has got what the church doesn't have. Let me tell you something.

05 The world does not have a land flowing with milk and honey. It'll destroy you. It'll kill you. It'll wipe you out. It'll addict you. This is the land. The promised land is the kingdom, is the church. And he's pleading with them, and they're not listening. and all of the sudden, God shifts Moses. And in verse 32, he says, put a distance between yourselves. They won't repent. They're hard-hearted. They're negative. They're critical. They're full of wrong attitudes. They're rebellious. And the boys are watching this. The family's watching this.

58 Teenagers, boys. are watching it. I don't have time to read it, but the mother was with Korah. The other family members were with Korah. But the sons of Korah, when he said, separate, this is a gut-wrenching decision. This is a soul-searching moment. This is a moment where Korah's sons Look at the situation. Moses said, everybody get away from them. Get away from everything that pertains to them. Get away from their tents. Get away from everything they possess. Don't touch any of it. Separate yourselves. And in that separation, boys had to make a decision. Do I stand with my father and follow the road that he's going down of rebellion?

55 Or do I have a moment of decision where I say, just because dad and mom are living there, I don't want that life. I want Moses. I want the law. I want what God has. I want where God is shining his favor. I can't do it. I love you, mom. I love you, dad. I love you, siblings. but two of those boys, probably weeping, separated from their own flesh and blood. And I just want to read the simple scripture. It's so remarkable. Separate yourselves. Separate yourselves. And he gathered the congregation at the door. Verse 21, separate yourselves from the congregation that I may consume them in a moment. And Moses rose up and he spoke to the congregation and he said, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men.

58 Touch nothing, lest you be consumed in their sin. It says in the next verse toward the end, the door of the tents, their wives, their sons, their little children, all their sons, all the Abiram's sons, all the other guys' sons, all of them were in the group that's about to get consumed, but not the sons of Korah. They pulled themselves away. I'm saying to you, just because your father was rebellious and living a life of rebellion against God's will doesn't mean you have to. Just because all your family is dysfunctional and messed up doesn't mean you have to be. Just because it's been alcohol for generations doesn't mean that you have to be an alcoholic. It does not. You can make a decision to redeem your family name. The sons of Korah said, no, I love you.

53 I'll always love you. I'll be here. I'll shine a light. But I cannot take my children and my children's children down that path of anger and bitterness and cursing and all kinds of hating the church and hating the ministry. I can't do that. And it came to pass, verse 31, when he had ended all these speaking words, the ground clave asunder that was under them. The earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up, their houses and all that pertained to the men of Korah and all their goods. They and all that pertained to them went down alive in the pit, and the earth closed upon them and they perished from among the congregation. And then verse 35, and there went out a fire from the Lord. And he said, all of you who joined the rebellion, 250 of you famous folks who forgot where your fame and your money and your prestige and your influence came from, you were nothing when I found you and I put Moses over you and you prospered.

02 but now you think you're big shots. He said, I got a little present for you. And the Bible said fire shot out of that pit and just licked them up and pulled them in and all of their families were ruined. Wow. Is this not the craziest story you've ever seen? And then the people started saying, Moses was too strict. Moses was too strict. Oh, God, Moses shouldn't have done that. And God said, Oh, really? Moses didn't do it. I did it. And then he sent a plague and 14,700 like dominoes just started falling. And it was spreading. And it gets right up and Aaron runs out with the censer and swings the censer, stands between the living and the dead. And when he stood with intercession, and I'm telling you, it matters.

01 This is powerful. And the plague stopped. And that would be just the saddest story. But then 10 chapters later. in Numbers You know where I'm going? Throw it up if you can. 10 chapters later, he wants you to know this is the same story because he says, this is that Dathan. I don't want you to be confused about any other ones in the Bible. This is the same story. But then he says this. Look at that 11th verse. All of them got devoured. All of them got jacked up. All of them hit by judgment and died notwithstanding. those sons of Korah, said, God, we don't know what the future holds, but I have decided to follow you.

02 And as for me and my house and my family name, it will not go down in shame. It will not go down in bitterness. It will not go down in defeat. It will not be known forever by rebellion. Now, here's the beautiful part. I must go now. they're not siding with their family they're siding that is going to hell they're siding and having a holy rebellion we need a generation of young people you know we always talk about young people are rebellious but we need some holy rebellion that says just because you've done that I don't have to do it and just because you have acted that way and you don't like God and you don't look like church I don't have to I've got holy rebellion Thank you. Watch this. just because mom and dad didn't, the Bible reintroduces us.

59 Everybody say, this story needs a sequel. The Bible reintroduces us three generations later in the book of Psalms to some boys called the sons of Korah. and they show up and write 11 psalms or songs for all of Israel to sing in the tabernacle and praise God. It was a burden to our daddy, but it's a joy. I'm glad to get up under it. It was hard and he was bitter about ministry, but I love ministry.

38 And they wrote these songs. You're not going to believe this, and we're going to take a minute. In the book of Psalms, in the book of Psalms, chapter 41, listen to what it says. See, if you read this, chapter 42, it says up at the top, this is the book of the Exodus concerning Israel, Psalms 42. an intense longing, the chief musician, Meshkel, was one of the great, great grandsons of Korah. The sons of Korah. Look what they write. As the deer panteth for the water, so my soul longeth after thee. You know, we sing that song. Now you know the story behind the story.

33 You alone are my heart's desire, and I long to worship. I'm not bitter. I'm not angry. I'm not mad. You alone are my strength, my shield. Isn't that beautiful? Can you see those sons? To you alone, I love my daddy, but to you alone may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart's. I put you above everything, and I long to worship you. Now watch, watch, watch, watch.

28 Lord, help me. I keep messing my Bible up. Okay. So that's Psalms. Just keep playing that. That's pretty. That's Psalms 41. But watch this. Watch this. That's Psalms 42. Then I want you to notice Psalms 44 says the sons of Korah wrote it. But Psalms 45, this famous verse, my heart is indicted in a good matter. I speak of things. Now, remember, hold on just one moment, Bill, please. I speak of things. Listen to this. I speak. So remember why Korah got in trouble. He was so critical and negative. But he says, he says, I'm going to get it. You know...

24 He says, I speak of things which I have made touching the king. And listen to these words. My tongue. I know my great, great granddaddy's tongue was cursing and hating God. Those blankety blank preachers. But my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. I've got to read it because it just does something to me. In the same chapter, or the next chapter, Psalms 46, it's the song of the sons of Korah.

19 Listen to this. He says, our God is a refuge and a strength, a very present help in the time of trouble. who's writing this folks the sons of Korah we've been in trouble our family's been in trouble our family name has been in trouble our history has been our heritage our inheritance has been in severe trouble but I found that God I've got the tongue of a ready writer to tell you all 11 of these chapters reek with thankfulness and gratitude thankfulness and gratitude Oh God, I have a tongue of a ready writer. I want to tell people how good you are. I'm not bitter. I'm not angry. I'm not hurt. I'm joyful. I'm thankful. And then he says this. He says, Though, therefore, we will not fear, though the earth be removed.

21 Well, he was there when the earth was removed. He was there when the ground swallowed up his relatives and his whole family name. But he said, I've been through that trouble with the family. And God is a present help in the time of trouble. And I'm redeeming my family name by writing that God is faithful no matter what you go through. I'm almost done. I'm not going to do. I know you're thinking he's going to do all 11 chapters. No, I'm not. Just relax. He writes in that same chapter, chapter 46, verse 10, Be still and know that I am God. And some people misquote that scripture as though there shouldn't be any shouting, shouldn't be any clapping, waving hands, and getting with it in the service. Be still.

15 That's some of you's favorite sermon or favorite text in the Bible. Be still. because you do it the whole service. Except the altar call. Be still and know that I am God. You know what he's saying? If you literally look that word still, internally, no matter how real the trouble is, no matter how the earth is shaking and things are being removed and it feels like your family's going down, be still internally from anxiety, panic, fear, worry, torment, vexation of spirit don't be still and know that even in the midst of whatever I am God they could write it because they went through it and I lost my page again But watch this. on the inside be still but then they write psalms 47 the sons of cora first verse on the outside on the inside be still be at peace be at rest don't worry don't fear but on the outside clap your hands oh you people shout unto god with the voice of triumph Thank you.

32 I'm done. I'm done. Except for one more verse. One more verse. They wrote Psalms 84. You're not going to believe it. you can play Bill thank you verse 10 but one day in thy courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. Listen to these words. I had rather... There's no bitterness here. I know that I don't have that of an important name or position like Moses, but I'm going to tell you seemingly, and yet it was huge. he said I'd rather be a doorkeeper you know who wrote that?

26 the sons of Corp I'd rather be a doorkeeper in the house of God than to dwell in the tents remember that's where God's judgment fell he said I'd rather be in the house of God give me anything to do I'll sit there and pay my tithes and worship God and love people and shake hands and pat on the back and pray with people. I'd rather be a doorkeeper in the house of God than be a part of the biggest scene in Hollywood or in any other place that the world has offered. So my daughter Courtney, we were talking, and she said, Dad, have you ever seen this? And I said, no.

23 And she told me about how that when a woman is pregnant with a female, that there are eggs in the five-month-old female for the next five generations. that means that when mama praises the Lord, she's not just praising for here and now. When mama comes to church, she's not just hearing sermons for here and now, but thy word have I hid in my heart and my children and my children's children and my children's great children and my children's children's children. Every sermon I hear, every time I raise my hand, every time I give God my tithe, Every time I praise Him, every time I fast, every time I read the Word, I'm not just doing it for me. It has a ripple effect for five generations.

22 You know, you know, there I'm done, I promise. But we were discussing this too. Is it eugenics? Am I saying that right? Eugenics and some of you doctors that may be here, you know I'm telling you the truth. There's something that they have just discovered through DNA and all the artificial intelligence called eugenics. This is crazy. They did a study and the Holocaust survivors who made it through, they have had time to research it and they watched this gene that can be passed, which is darkness and depression and all of this stuff. It can be passed through the seed for four generations. and the children who didn't even know what the Holocaust was, they discovered, and you say, I'm doing a terrible job of explaining it. When I read it, I Googled it, and I read it, and I began to read it.

18 I was astounded that some of you are not just fighting battles against things here and now. Some of it has been generational over and over and over, and Jesus has to get in your genes. And I got to finish with this. Ruth was a Moabite.

41 Ruth was of the tribe of Moabites. That was Lot's daughters when they got drunk, Lot and his daughters, and had relations, incest. Out of that came a tribe called Moabites. they were so wicked if you again look it up for yourself if you don't take my word for you can just google this stuff now it's amazing but they would teach their daughters they would the way you made the moabite family name proud is if your daughter became a prostitute their their their culture their morals were so bent that it was normal for incest in the family and intermixing There were no rules. There were no boundaries. There were no laws. It was any and everything that you can imagine.

35 Out of that situation, she probably was at one time a prostitute, came a girl named Ruth. And what happened is she's looking at her family generation after generation, and she meets a young Jewish boy who has a mother named Naomi, and a famine comes. She gets married out of that, into this family. But her husband dies in a famine, and she grabs her mother-in-law. She looks back at all of that, and she says, entreat me not to leave you. Don't put me away because my husband died, because your God will be my God. And your people, I want a family like this. I don't want a family like that. Your people will be my people.

30 She goes in a field to get the welfare that was left on purpose. And Boaz, the owner, sees her, falls in love with her, marries her. And they have a child named Obed. Watch, you can redeem your family name. and Obed and his wife have a child named Jesse. And Jesse has a son named David. Oh, I got to preach right here. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Don't take my time, child. And guess who identified David as the king of Israel by the leading of the Holy Spirit? A man by the prophet by the name of Samuel. And 1 Chronicles 6 says Samuel was of the tribe of the Kohites, which was the sons of Korah. Samuel, the prophet, who not one of his words fell to the ground, 1 Samuel 3, was the one who said, it's not that one, that one, that one.

36 And ooh, the Holy Spirit's telling me David. And he pours it on. And then you read the book of Matthew. And it starts so and so begot. And right in there, you see what I just got to. And guess what? Right at the bottom of the list. And Mary had Jesus. they changed their genetic code when jesus got in he broke the curse she redeemed her family name.

15 Forever, you can too. Our family's not going to be known as addiction. Our family's not going to be known as dysfunction in Jesus' name. Our family's not going to be known as divorce. Our family's not going to be known as suffering. Our family is going to be known as Jesus is in their genetics. They go through the same stuff, but they end up right back where they started. Jesus, Jesus, give me Jesus. That should be our heritage. Get Jesus in your genetics.
