… but with a demonstration of God's spirit and power so that your faith would not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. Now, among the mature, we do speak wisdom. We impart wisdom, but it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, which are being reduced to nothing. No, we speak God's wisdom in the mystery of what was hidden, which God determined beforehand, before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this, because if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, what no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined what God prepared for those who love him. God revealed this to us by the Spirit, because the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. You see, no one knows the thoughts of a man except for the spirit of that man within him, so also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. And this is the Spirit we have received, not a spirit of this world, but the Spirit who is from God so that we may understand the things freely given to us by God. … but in demonstration of the spirit and of power so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. again, there was a decision. You know, last night, Chandler talked about the safety belt. Right, we put on that safety belt, and honestly, my safety belt is sermon prep. I'm not talking about studying the Word of God. Okay? I study the Word. We should all be students of the Word of God. Study, study, study, study. But sometimes my safety belt is my sermon prep and just figuring out how to deliver it just right to where I know it can't fail. I know, like what you were saying last night. I know how to keep people's attention. I know how to put together a message I'll keep everyone's attention for 40 minutes. I figured that out. Okay, so that's my safety best. So even if the Holy Spirit does nothing, it's still gonna be fine. Seriously, people will still walk out of the church building going, that was good. …
… and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom but in demonstration of the spirit and of power so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of god This has been on my mind so much. I'm going, God, I don't know how to do this. Like, how do I come before a crowd in weakness and in fear and in much trembling? You guys, I've been doing this for the last 30 years I've been preaching. I can't even tell how many thousands of times I've gone in front of a crowd and just started speaking. It's like sleeping or eating. It's just, it's so natural. And then I read this and I'm just like, okay, what does it mean to come with trembling? How do I come before a crowd in weakness, in fear, and in trembling? how do you get in front of a crowd when they actually flew you over there and they're all excited to have you there because some gift you have how do you then show up in weakness and fear in trembling shouldn't I come here with like a confidence man I got a message for you you know shouldn't I have something prepared that's just airtight like bring my best stuff and just throw it on there and jump on the plane and go okay I did my job but to come in weakness and fear and trembling I'm just going God what does that even look like …

Chapter 4 of 1 Corinthians. Paul has an issue here with teachers and fathers. Teachers have become people of word but no action. lots of talk he says verse 19 but I will come to you shortly if the Lord wills and I will know not the word of those who are puffed up but the power for the kingdom of God is not in word it is in power 1 Thessalonians.
