What Everyone Desperately Needs

… to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation to be revealed in the last time. You know, we are living in a culture where hope is fading fast. I read something this week by the World Health Organization that said there is a profound, widespread sense of hopelessness that is currently affecting many people. People are anxious about the future. They're anxious about current events. They're worried about the economy. They're worried about the political polarization in our own country. And several surveys have noted that a record number of people, especially young people, are feeling depressed and anxious and have a lack of hope. A little article in Psychology Today noted that almost 50, 50, 5-0, 50%, half of our population are feeling depressed and even hopeless. and one of the biggest reasons for that is people are always looking down at one of these things they're looking down at their phones all the time they get a 24 7 dose of reality every time they look down at their phones and they hear of wars and rumors of wars and unrest and government shutdown and terrorism. We're always exposed to it because we're looking down. You know, Jesus tells us to do exactly the opposite, to look up, not look down. Jesus said, when these things begin to take place, look up because your redemption is drawing near. These signs of unrest are pointing …

The Supremacy of Christ Our Hope
John Piper, 2026-01-24 · Scripture reading

… kept in heaven for you who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. So if somebody asks you this afternoon, so what are you hoping in? You say, I'm hoping in eternal life. Death is a doorway to Jesus. I believe all my sins are forgiven. I don't have any guilt anymore because of Jesus. And I'm going to spend eternity happy with Jesus. And they'll say, why do you believe that? What will you say? Well, there's two answers right there. You say, because I've been born again. Second, you say reason number two, Jesus was raised from the dead. Now, if you're like me, you think that's not enough. Got to give a reason for the reason. And then you got to give a reason for the reason for the reason. ad infinitum, until you get to an absolutely incontrovertible argument. And guess what? There is no such thing. meaning Satan and all unbelievers can always say why, like a four-year-old. …

… okay by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Blessed be God and the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by his great mercy. Somebody holler as loud as you can great mercy. You have great mercy working in your life. Don't know what that is? God's compassionate, divine kindness overlooking your faults, working things out for your good. Because of his great mercy, say this loud too, he's given us a new birth. That means I don't care how you were born, you can be born again. In Christ, we get to get in the water like we did in our mother's womb when we were in the water and in the ambiotic fluid. You were born the first time you came out the water. Your mother knew it was time to birth you because her what broke? Water. So when you get saved, you get back in new water because you have a new birth, y'all. Now listening, into what kind of hope? …

The Believer’s Highest Earthly Joy (1 Peter 1:3-9)
John MacArthur, 2022-10-30 · Scripture reading

… from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. And though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, obtaining as the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls." Marvelous portion of Scripture. And I want to draw your attention to two statements. One of them appears in verse 6, at the beginning of the verse, "'In this you greatly rejoice.'" This is a statement of fact. …

… That is the security of our salvation. Further, he says in verse 5, that we are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. The full revelation of our final salvation and the receiving of that glorious heavenly inheritance is for us and no one else, and we are protected by the power of God for that final revelation. So Peter is literally affirming the security of salvation, the security of salvation. You will one day be in glory, as it says at the end of verse 8, and greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, because you will obtain as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls." This is security. Security is objective. It is based on the divine revelation, Scripture. Scripture says salvation is forever. If you have it, it is forever. But there's another word that is important, and that is the word assurance. Security is an objective reality. is a subjective reality. …
