Wives, in the same way, submit yourselves to your husbands, so that even if they refuse to believe the word, they will be won over without words by the behavior of their wivesIn the same way, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands, so that, even if any don’t obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word,Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;In like manner, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, even if any obey not the word, they may without the word be gained by the behavior of their wives;

… I was thinking about what Peter says to wives. 1 Peter 3.1 says, To wives who have a husband who does not obey the word, he says to them, be subject that they may be won over without a word, but by the conduct of your lives. You could say a word, he's saying to those wives. You could say a word. You could tell your husband what to do. Or you could hold the words and make an appeal through the conduct of your lives. Paul is teaching us something here about how to go about approaching reconciliation with someone else. Is there a way to appeal to the heart before giving a command of the words? To appeal, I'm appealing to you. Come, join together again. Third, an appeal to gospel transformation. this is where Paul finally gets to his direct appeal to Philemon there verse 17 again if you consider me your partner receive Philemon or receive Onesimus as you would receive me Onesimus had become a Christian we don't really know how that went down don't have any background in that? Maybe something like this. Onesimus, I know you're running, running away from Philemon, but you know Onesimus, no matter how far you might run away from Philemon, you know you can never run away from God. …
… but I cannot disobey the word of Christ. And she is exemplifying 1 Peter 3, verse 1. In the same way, wives, be submissive to your own husbands, so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives. I'm praying that this husband will come to know Christ through her testimony. A testimony of disposition that yields to man's leadership, her husband's leadership, with ultimate devotion to the leadership of Christ. A woman's primary responsibility to support and she is accountable to God for affirmation of her husband. In other words, affirming her husband's role. Yes, I'm suitable, helpful for you. Designed by God in a complimentary way. Not competitive way with you. There are things you need in me and I affirm my need for your leadership. A woman accountable to God for affirmation. There's a reason why Ephesians chapter 5 says husbands love your wives and then wives respect your husbands. There's a picture of affirmation there. …
… This is what we do in Christ. Same thing in 1 Peter 3, verse 1-7. So here's the picture. You put it all together. It's clear. Man was created to be head in a way that woman was not. In a way that woman was created to be helper. In a way that man was not. Man with loving authority over woman. Woman with glad submission under man's authority. Now, as soon as that is established, we think, isn't that demeaning to women? Isn't that at the very least slightly offensive to women? and it's not and I know that as soon as I say that you say well of course not you're a man and I get that but this is where I want to show you this is good both in the likeness of God both with different roles and the words of Genesis 1.31 is very very very good on so many different levels this is expressed so clearly in God and the beauty and the wonder and the community even we see in the Trinity between the Father and the Son. …
