And after you've suffered a little while, the God of grace who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 1 Peter 5, 10. The hope that he's called you to. I think you can sum it up this way. the call of God, the invitation to God is that you are going to have a glorious future with Christ. you are going to have a glorious future with Christ. And we're not talking about the by and by, we're talking about walking with him today. But your best day is when you step into the glorious future that he has called you to. and in that moment you will realize there was nothing better on earth than that day there's nothing going to happen to you better than that day there is nothing been promised to you better than that day and he's just needing you to see that today not just to you know understand it in the information side he's needing you to have revelation that i am a person with a glorious future in Christ. I was thinking back about the World Cup, and I think we're all over our depression from the World Cup being over now. I hate to bring it back up, but I was thinking about how in the World Cup matches, the players would come out at the beginning of the game, and when they would come out, they'd be holding the hand of a little boy or a little girl. That was the best …
… throughout the world and after you have suffered a little while. The God of all grace who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. What I wanna take a look at, this is not an exhaustive list, but the way I see this text is Peter is showing us at least five ways that men are typically taken off of that wall by the schemes of the enemy. The first one I see is this, is pride. It's pride. This is why Peter says, humble yourself therefore under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you. And pride is really hard to see in yourself because you like what's looking back in the mirror. submit. Are you prideful? Do you demand credit? Do you demand a thank you? Here's how you know if you're prideful. When you look at a group photo, do you determine it's an okay photo based solely on you in the picture? And it's so hard to see in ourselves. In fact, if right now you're thinking, I need to send this to my brother-in-law, you're the prideful one. …
… throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you to him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen. I see here Peter laying out some of the schemes of the enemy that he has historically taken men out. Here's what's so wonderful about God's word. This is not an old book. This is a timeless book. This thing is living and active. It doesn't just tell you what happened, it tells you what always happens. And so Peter is warning men about some ways that the enemy historically has taken men out. I'm gonna give you five of them. It's not an exhaustive list. This is just what Peter addresses. The first one is this. One of the ways that the enemy takes out men is this. Pride. Pride. This is why he says, humble yourself therefore under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time, he may exalt you. …
… by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you to him be the dominion forever and ever, amen. By Silvanus, a faithful brother, as I regard him, I have written briefly to you, exhorting and declaring that this is the true grace of God. stand firm in it. She who is at Babylon, who is likewise chosen, sends you greetings, and so does Mark, my son. Greet one another with the kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ. As I said this morning, it's tempting when we come to the end of one of these letters to think that we just have an assortment, a hodgepodge of material and exhortations to wrap up this letter. All the big doctrinal points are out there. All of the meaty stuff has been communicated. All the soaring passages have been read. …
… Let me just read. Let me read 1 Peter 5.10 to y'all. Was that the verse they put up there? Let me read it to you. But may the God of all grace, who called us to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. That's powerful right there. After you've gone through some stuff, after you've cried some tears, after you've been through some difficult days, after you've been through some challenges, God will perfect you. That means bring you to a level of maturity, establish you, strengthen you, settle you. Some of y'all ain't been settled yet. Some of y'all haven't been established yet because you ain't gone through nothing. Every time the fire gets heated up, you jump out the fire. Every time you start going through some suffering, you jump out the situation. Stick in it. Stay in there and let God do what he wants to do in you and through you. I'm preaching. I am preaching up in here. …
… So understand that all the offenses against you are the trials that perfect you. Peter puts it this way, 1 Peter 5.10, "'After you have suffered a while, the Lord make you perfect.'" Spiritual maturity, spiritual perfection requires trials, and some of the toughest trials are the trials of those who persecute, reject, and show sinful harm somehow to you. Embrace it as a trial the Lord will use to make you humble and strong. Number eight, we forgive to avoid irreverence. What do I mean by that? Well, the most irreverent thing a person could do, the most irreverent thing any human could do would be to equate himself with God. You don't want to do that. But that's what you do if you cultivate vengeance and revenge. Listen to Romans chapter 12, verse 14. "'Bless those who persecute you, bless and do not curse.'" So there's the very simple principle. That's the essence of forgiveness. You bless, you don't curse. Bless those who persecute you. Bless and do not curse. …
