Now That You Know - Sarah Jakes Roberts
Sarah Jakes Roberts, 2026-09-06

… originally intended. And so when we look back then in Genesis 2 to try and get an understanding, well, Lord, what was your original intention? I go to Genesis 2. And I think Genesis 2 verses 16 through 17 make it explicitly clear what God intended earth and our experience on earth to be like. Genesis 2 verses 16 through 17 says, and the Lord God commanded the man saying, of every tree of the garden you may freely eat, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die. So this gives us some perspective on the kind of existence that God wanted us to have on earth. In God's divine plan, he wanted us to live in a world where we had no knowledge of good and evil, okay? Let's think about that because when we look at Genesis 1, in Genesis 1, he is very intentional about making sure that everything he has created receives a stamp that says good. So, he created the heavens and this, he separated the heavens and every Genesis 1 is in there. Every time he finishes a completion and it meets his qualification, he says good. So, we know that God did not have a problem with us having the knowledge of good. There was something about us having the knowledge of good and evil that he was trying to prohibit. The Hebrew translation for that word evil is ra. …

… And out of the ground the Lord God made us spring up every tree that is pleasant to the side and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Go and skip down to verse 15. The Lord took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat. For in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die. Then the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make him a helper fit for him. Now out of the ground, the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. …

Marriage on Mission - Louie Giglio
Louie Giglio, 2025-06-08

… you're free to eat out of any tree in the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it, you will certainly die. Now we're just getting the big picture here. Everybody knows this for the most part, but if you're gonna talk about marriage, you have to understand where did this whole idea come from. And the Lord God said, it is not good for the man to be alone. The man was very good, but being alone was not good. So to the guys in the room, God's saying, you were created very good. You by yourself, that is not a good idea. So once again, guys, we're dust, not titanium, and by ourselves is not a good idea. So we might ought to step down off our high horse if we're on one right about here because we're barely into the story and it's not good for us to be alone. I'll make a suitable helper for him. And so the Lord looks around and he's made all these animals and he looks through all the creatures. He doesn't find a suitable helper, praise God. …

The ABCs of Family - Part 2
John K. Jenkins Sr., 2025-01-06 · Scripture reading

… Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die. God gave Adam boundaries, and we all have boundaries, restrictions, limitations. And then I talked about a companion. The C in ABCs of family stands for companion, that God wants you to have a companion. It's said in Genesis 2.18. Let me read Genesis 2.18 to you. And the Lord God said, it is not good that man should be alone. I will make him a helper comparable to him. The fact is, God said it's not good for a man to be alone. The word alone means, that word alone means that it's not good for a man to be the chief of a city by himself. and that's an important point because here's what God is saying because right after that he made Eve created Eve and connected them together God recognized that God never intended for a man to run the affairs of the world or of his family by himself and men need to recognize that God never intended for you to make all the decisions by yourself without your spouse's help Thank you. …

… of every tree of the garden you may freely eat, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die. Y'all see that? The B in ABC stands for boundaries. You got to have boundaries. Life is filled with boundaries, restrictions, limitations, limits. Everybody's got boundaries. Everybody's got to learn to live within those boundaries. We live in a culture today where people don't want no boundaries. They don't want no boundaries. They want to have the freedom to do whatever it is they want to do. That's not the way life functions. It's boundaries. boundaries. You have boundaries, limitations, restrictions. And Adam was given a restriction. Now all these trees, all this fruit here you can eat, but now this tree there, leave that tree alone. Don't mess with that tree. And y'all need to see what kind of boundaries, what kind of limitations has this person that you are thinking about marrying, do they have? What kind of limitations, what kind restrictions. So you gotta, you gotta bow the way. …

… Number two, what does the serpent represent? And number three, what does the tree of the knowledge of good and evil really represent? Genesis 1, 2, 3, where did the serpent come from? What does the serpent represent? And what does the tree of the knowledge of good and evil represent? Number two, I want you to read Job. If you can read the entire book, great. If not, get to chapter 42. I want you to read Job 42, and I want you to answer this question. Who is God upset with and why? Okay, you got the Genesis assignment. Job 42, who is God upset with and why? And the final question I want you to ask, doesn't require any Bible, it's just a question. how much of your life do you believe is predestined by God? And how much of your life is the direct result of your own free will choices? I'll say it again. How much of your life is predestined, inevitable, because God said that's going to be? …

… And it tells us that in that garden, there was a tree called the tree of life. there's another tree called the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and then God took the man that he had created and put him in the garden he had prepared for him and told him you may eat freely from every tree in this garden except from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil for in the day that you eat from that tree you will surely die and then the story says God said it's not good for the man to be alone I'm going to make a helper for him and so out of the ground the Lord God made every beast of the field and every bird of the air and he brought them to the man to see what the man would name them and whatever the man called it that was its name man named all the animals the man named all the birds he named everything God put in front of him but there was no fitting helper found for the man then God caused the man to fall asleep and he removed a rib and closed over the place with the flesh and he took that rib and made it into a woman and brought the woman to the man and the man said Zot that's Hebrew for hot dog. …

The Book of Genesis (Part 1)
Francis Chan, 2017-01-06

… you may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die. So he gives him this command and says, look, everything I just made is for you. Just stay away from this one tree. But all of this, you're breathing because of me. You're thinking because of me. You're feeling because of me. You're tasting all this goodness. And here you are, my creation with me. But then you get to chapter three and we're introduced to Satan, the enemy, the serpent. and he says to the woman after after you know I skipped that part but God creates woman out of the man but but he says to the woman hey did God actually say chapter 3 verse 1 did God really say that you shall not eat of you know this this of any tree of the garden and the woman said to the serpent no we can eat of any of the fruits of the trees in the garden but you shall not eat God says, you shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that's in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it lest you die. …
