Miracles Of Provision – Part 1
Robert Jeffress, 2026-10-09

… We need someone to love. In Genesis 2.18, God looked at Adam and said, it is not good for a man to be alone. Now, Adam was hardly alone. He had a relationship with God that was perfect, that was untainted by sin. Perfect fellowship with God. But that wasn't enough. God said, it's not enough for you to just have a relationship with me. God created the animals, the hippopotami, the giraffe, cats and dogs, everything was created, but that wasn't enough. Some people try to satisfy their need for others with their pets. It's not enough. God said, I will make a helper suitable for you, and he created the woman. God says we We need someone to love. But that need for human companionship also means we need a place to belong. We just don't need one other person. We need a community. We need a community. You know, community is a big word today. But in this day of isolation, we need community. Remember that old television show that came out in 1982? …

Better Together | Reaching the World
Greg Laurie, 2026-08-05

… You're not meant to do life alone. In fact, the first thing that God said was not good was the aloneness of man back in the book of Genesis. It says Genesis 2.18, it is not good for man to be alone. Proverbs 27, 17 reminds us, as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Ecclesiastes 4.9 says, two are better than one. If either one of them falls down, one can help the other up. I read an article from the Harvard Women's Health Watch, and I always read the Harvard Women's Health Watch. No, I just came across it. And it said, quote, dozens of studies have shown that people who have satisfying relationships with family, friends, and their community are happier, they have fewer health problems, and they live longer, end quote. And that's so true. Because God has wired us that way. And this is where the church comes in, you see. Because the church is an oasis of hope and a desert of hopelessness. And that is why every one of us needs to be a part of the church. You'll be happier when you're a part of the church, and you'll even be healthier when you're part of the church. Physically, Time Magazine did a cover story with the headline, Benefits of Faith and the Church. And here are their observations. Heart surgery patients who draw comfort from their faith have a significantly higher survival rate than those who do not. …

Singleness and The Next Generation
David Platt, 2026-06-24

… than his design in marriage here. And then on a church level, singleness portrays the Christian's eternal identification with the church. You say, well, what about Genesis 2.18? It says it's not good for man to be alone. And that's absolutely true. It's not good for man to be alone. But the whole picture that God has designed for the church is to show that no man or no woman is alone. That we are a family together surrounded by brothers and sisters that are in an eternal sense. Our relationships with each other, don't miss this, are far more precious and far more permanent than even the physical relationship that happens between a husband and a wife. This is not, again, to degrade marriage, but it is to bring us back to the biblical reality that physical family relationships here are ultimately temporary. It is only, it's what we talked about the first week, is only spiritual relationships in the church that last forever. And so you have, for example, an unbelieving husband and a believing wife or vice versa. …

… entrusted by God, and woman created to be the helper. Genesis chapter 2, verse 18 and verse 20. Use twice this word. Woman created as a helper, suitable for man. Equal in dignity, different in role, in a complementary way. Now what I want us to see at the beginning today is how sin has woefully distorted those two roles. And we bear, feel the effects of sin. Broken relationships with men and women abound all across this room. Distorted ideas of manhood and womanhood abound all across our culture. What I want to show you is it all goes back to Genesis chapter 3. So I want us to read it. Now this is a story I'm guessing that many of us have read before, but as we read it, I want you to hear and pay attention closely to the interchange between man and woman. and the effect of sin entering in the world on man and woman in different ways. So let's read Genesis 3. Then let's ask God to help us understand this. …

… For in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die. Then the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make him a helper fit for him. Now out of the ground, the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whenever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and the birds of the heavens and every beast of the field. But for Adam, there was not found a helper fit for him. so the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh and the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man then the man said this at last is a bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh she shall be called woman because she was taken out of man Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife and they shall become one flesh. …

The Everyday Bride of Jesus: How Christology Shapes a Local Church
David Mathis, 2026-04-18 · Scripture reading

… of Genesis chapter 2 the Lord God said it is not good that the Christ should be alone I will make him a helper fit for him so the Lord God caused a deep sleep death like sleep to fall upon the man and he pierced his side, took one of his ribs, closed up its place with flesh, and the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into the church and brought her to the Christ. Therefore, the Christ shall hold fast to his church and they shall become one flesh. And of course, that's not how Genesis 2 reads yet, But Paul does quote verse 24 in Ephesians chapter 5 As you know, this mystery is profound And I'm saying that it refers to Christ in the church So this mystery of marriage that remained an enigma For thousands of years Is now revealed In the coming of Jesus Why did God design the world like he did and us like he did male and female just so basic everywhere It is a losing fight to try to cover it up and pretend like it's not that way And now at the coming of Jesus and the making of his church, the cat's out of the bag. …

Marriage on Mission - Louie Giglio
Louie Giglio, 2025-06-08

… you have to understand where did this whole idea come from. And the Lord God said, it is not good for the man to be alone. The man was very good, but being alone was not good. So to the guys in the room, God's saying, you were created very good. You by yourself, that is not a good idea. So once again, guys, we're dust, not titanium, and by ourselves is not a good idea. So we might ought to step down off our high horse if we're on one right about here because we're barely into the story and it's not good for us to be alone. I'll make a suitable helper for him. And so the Lord looks around and he's made all these animals and he looks through all the creatures. He doesn't find a suitable helper, praise God. but for Adam, no suitable helper was found. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. And while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs, then closed up the place with flesh. …

The ABCs of Family - Part 2
John K. Jenkins Sr., 2025-01-06

… that God wants you to have a companion. It's said in Genesis 2.18. Let me read Genesis 2.18 to you. And the Lord God said, it is not good that man should be alone. I will make him a helper comparable to him. The fact is, God said it's not good for a man to be alone. The word alone means, that word alone means that it's not good for a man to be the chief of a city by himself. and that's an important point because here's what God is saying because right after that he made Eve created Eve and connected them together God recognized that God never intended for a man to run the affairs of the world or of his family by himself and men need to recognize that God never intended for you to make all the decisions by yourself without your spouse's help Thank you. Thank all 15 of y'all for that. Amen. That's an important deal because a lot of families, you know, men don't recognize they need the help of their wives. …

The ABCs of Family - Part 1
John K. Jenkins Sr., 2025-01-06

… Verse 18. And the Lord God said, it is not good that man should be alone. I will make him a helper comparable to him. Now, this is very, very important. The Lord God said, it is not good for man that man should be alone. Now, notice what he did not say. He did not say it is not... Let me back up. I'm just... When God says it's not good for man to be alone, he did not say that he would be lonely. Listen carefully. Listen carefully. When a person, see, God gives us emotions. And those emotions are designed to be an alarm system for us. That's what emotions do. It's God's way of giving you an alarm that something's out of whack. and when you feel lonely it's an alarm that you have failed to spend time in the presence of God. Yeah, this is cool. Because when you learn how to commune with God and have a relationship with God, you don't need another person in your life. …

… in the current world that we live in, the fallen world, with regard to marriage. In Genesis chapter 2 and verse 18, we have the inspired record of the creation of woman. And I just want you to follow along as I read, starting in Genesis 2 and verse 18. Then the Lord God said, "'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make him a helper suitable for him.' Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky and brought them to the man to see what He would call them, and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all the cattle and to the birds of the sky and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept. Then he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. …

Harmony in the Home
Adrian Rogers

… purpose. And He tells us what the purpose is. Go on over to Genesis chapter 2 and look if you will at verse 18. Genesis chapter 2 and verse 18. And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone. Now He had created all of these things and He says, It's good, it's good, it's good, it's good. Everything God created He would say, That's good, that's good, that's good. And then God made man and He said, That's not good. He said, It is not good that man should be alone. I will make him and help meet for him. And right there my dear friend in that verse you have the divine design. You have why God created male and female. And let me give you the three reasons very quickly. First of all for companionship. It is not good that man should be alone. None of the animals could satisfy the hunger in Adam's heart. And not even God Himself. Adam, think about it, it's incredible. Adam had a face-to-face relationship with Almighty God in the Garden of Eden, and yet that could not satisfy the deepest need that Adam had. And so God created woman, first of all, for His companionship. And I thank God for the precious companion that He's given me. But not only for companionship, but also for cooperation. Notice what it says, I will make an helper for him. A helpmeet or fitting for him. Now the word helper there is a noun, it is not a …

… in the family. Genesis chapter 2, beginning at verse 18, we read, Then the Lord God said, It is not good for the man to be alone. We just need to pause right there for a minute. There's a clue right there. The Lord God said, It is not good for man to be alone. The Lord God looked at Adam and said, he needs somebody. That boy ain't going to make it. There's a pattern in creation, the pattern for six days before God rests on the seventh day. By the way, here's a little footnote. You know, people are always trying to ask these complicated questions, you know, trying to find out, you know, how crazy you are. Do you actually believe in a literal seven-day creation? I love when people ask me that. Because I go, no, of course I don't believe in a literal seven day creation. He did it in six, baby. All right. And so there's a pattern here. The pattern is let there be, then there was, and then it was good. …
