… and brought her to the man then the man said this at last is a bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh she shall be called woman because she was taken out of man Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed. Okay, truth number one. God created men and women with equal dignity. Truth number two. God created men and women with different roles. Different roles. Clearly, in so many ways, God created man and woman from the very beginning differently. There's a reason why there's male and female here. There's a reason, multiple reasons actually. While male and female are distinct, they're designed by God to be that way. Genesis 2 is showing us here that it's deeper than just mere anatomy. This is not just biological triviality, accident. This is God creating man for a reason, God creating woman for a reason. …
… had taken from man, he made into woman, and he brought her to the man. God brought Eve to Adam, and Adam said, this is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman because she was taken out of man. When God brings you together, listen, please listen. Are you listening? If your marriage is tough, hard, and difficult, and you have these kinds of thoughts, Well, we shouldn't have gotten married in the first place. Everyone, listen, everyone pulls out some sort of an excuse. Are you in it? Yeah, we're in it. We're going to end it. Don't end it. Make it work. Just make it work. Now, look, I am not saying if you are being abused, then you need to get out of that house and call the cops or whatever it takes. I need to make sure. I counseled with a man who was sound asleep and his wife hit him. with a six foot long two by four and broke his jaw. And so I have to make clear, if you're being abused, get out of the house. In that particular case, she whacked him during the night sleeping. …
… They were the possession of men. Now, that is not the teaching of the Bible, by the way. In Genesis, Adam said, this is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She will be called woman because she was taken out of man. So they became partners in life together. That is the biblical teaching. But still today, in many places in the world, it is not that way. In places like India, in many countries in Africa, in lots of countries in the Middle East, girls are sold for forced marriages, especially countries under Muslim-majority rule under Sharia law. In many Muslim countries, women are illiterate by design. Very few enter the workforce. Even in Judaism, in ancient Judaism, the prayer was, God, I thank you that I'm not a slave, a Gentile, or a woman. and the strict rabbis were forbidden to greet women as they saw them in the streets. They couldn't even speak to their wives and daughters publicly. It was a broader push for modesty, but what ended up happening is women felt very, very isolated in those cultures. …
… And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man, he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, this at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman because she was taken out of man. Therefore, a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife and they shall become one flesh. and the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed. There's so much here. So I wanna show you four truths about God's design for marriage here and then springing from here all over scripture. Number one, God designs marriage for our good, for the good of humanity. Genesis chapter two, verse 18 jumps off the page in the Bible because over and over again to this point in Genesis chapter one and two, we've read, God saw that what he had made was good. The light was good. The land and the waters were good. …
… a lot of things in here are beautiful that we're not really going to spend a lot of time on but God brought the woman to the man what a gift and the man said this is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh she shall be called woman or whoa man moving妹 Evansthrough Brady date, been covered dating last week, but the man leaves his father and mother. So if you're still living with your father and your mother, guys, and you're wanting to get married, you might want to make some plans and make some moves. And is united to his wife and they become one flesh. Adam and his wife were both naked. That's what everybody's kind of aiming for. And they felt no shame. Wow. They were very good. and so let God give you the grace today to embrace that your value is in that you're made in the image of God and if you take that fast forward now into the story of the gospel you're bought with the blood of Christ you're chosen loved forgiven filled called that's who you are and you've got to discover your worth in your identity in Christ so that when you come to that precious altar to commit your life to someone else, you're not saying to them in that day, I need you to complete me. What you want them to do is compliment you, but you don't need them to complete you because that already has happened. We talked about this …
… her to the man. The man said, "'This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man. For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife, And they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed." So in Genesis chapter 2, God basically creates a man, and then from that man creates a woman, and inaugurates what Peter calls the grace of life, which is marriage. And marriage in Scripture has a number of purposes. One, companionship, and that's what you see here. Man needed a helper suitable for him. Marriage also has the purpose of procreation. Back in chapter 1, it says, in a broad sense, God created man in His own image and said, be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. So God's design for marriage is companionship and children. In 1 Corinthians 7, we find that God's design for marriage is also moral purity. …
… When God makes Eve from the body of Adam, Adam wakes up and he says, this is now bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman because she was taken out of man. He looks at her as an equal. There is equality there. There is not more worth in Adam and less worth in Eve. 1 Corinthians 11 makes this clear when Paul talks about Christ being the head of every man and the man being the head of the woman and God being the head of Christ. So in other words, if you take that in 1 Corinthians chapter 11, you would have to say that somehow the father was more valuable than the son if you say that the man is more valuable than the woman. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is not a question of value. It is a question of order. Back to the military illustration. You know, who's more valuable in the grand scheme of things? …
