… what you will eat or your body or what you will wear. For life is more than food and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens. They do not sow. They do not reap. They have no storeroom. They have no barn. Yet God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than birds? Who of you, by worrying, can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? Consider how wild the flowers grow. They do not labor. They do not spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all of his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow's thrown in the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? Watch the last verses, verse 33 and 34. Be generous. Give to the poor. Get yourselves a bank that can't go bankrupt. A bank in heaven far from bank robbers, safe from embezzlers, a bank that you can bank on. It's obvious, isn't it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be and end up being. Write down the last point today, your heart follows your money. I love this thought. Your heart is going to follow your money. Jesus says, wherever your treasure is, your heart will follow also. He says, why are you worried about what you're going to eat? Why are you worried about what you're going to wear? Why are you worried …
… Therefore, I say to you, don't worry about your life, what you'll eat or what you'll drink, or about your body, what you'll wear. Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothes? Now I want you to notice the therefore. So you've heard this before. Whenever you find a therefore in scripture, you need to find out what it's there for. Therefore always links what happened before. So in the light of everything I've just said, therefore do this. So he's just taught us about what we treasure and about that we can't serve both God and money. So now he's saying, therefore, in the light of that, don't worry about your life or what you'll eat or what you'll drink or what your body, what you'll wear. Isn't life more than food, the body more than clothes? All right. So often we read this section without reading the passages that came before it. And we just say, Jesus is telling us not to worry. Well, really what he's telling us is don't worry so much about the stuff that you need in daily life. …
… do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink or about your body. What you will wear is not life more than food and the body more than clothes. Look at the birds of the air. They do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you, by worrying, add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin, yet I tell you, not even Solomon, straight out of Zara in all of his splendor, was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown in the fire, will he not much more clothe you of little faith? So do not worry saying, what shall we eat or what shall we drink or what shall we wear? …
… nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air. They neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Do you see this? How do you not be anxious? Here's how, Jesus says, look at the birds. Like, think about the birds. Think, wait a minute. God feeds the birds, and I'm more valuable to God than birds. So God will provide for me. which means I don't have to worry. According to God's word, the antidote to worry in this world is filling your mind with truth from his word. Philippians 4 says the exact same thing. Don't be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. …
