… Luke 2 says now there were in the same country shepherds living in the field keeping watch over their flock by night and when they were there by night, the angel of the Lord stood before him and the glory of the Lord showed. And you know the rest of the story. Now, sheep have great night vision. I think I gave y'all a picture of a... There it is. Sheep have very good night vision. and they can see in the dark, which helps them to detect their predators. They possess a reflective layer. You can keep it up there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Behind the retina, which amplifies light in low-light conditions. While they can navigate and graze at night, they are not completely nocturnal and they prefer light and are often reluctant to move from bright to darkness. Although they see well at night, they struggle with transitioning between high and low light and cannot see the color red. sheep are known to graze in the dark relying on their super period night vision however despite their good night vision they hesitate to enter dark preferring a well-lit area now i told you i didn't want to assume but i want to assume that you know that sheep are all through the Bible, whether it's a real sheep or we are the sheep. … the just humbleness of it. And then the angel of the Lord goes out to find somebody. You know, the messenger says, somebody's gotta come see this. The Messiah, the Lord has been born and he goes out and he finds the night shift shepherds. Remember the shepherds were the lowest rung in society among Jewish people in the first century, and the knights of shepherds were the lowest of the low. And the messenger says, behold, I bring you good news of great joy for all people, not just some, but for all people. For unto you this day in the city of David is born a savior who is Christ the Lord. Savior was a term that was used both of God and of kings and warriors. It meant deliverer, rescuer. And the emperor took on that title himself. He was the savior of the world, he thought, when the Romans said. And then there's the title Christ. Christ is the Greek version of the Hebrew Messiah, which means anointed one, one in a sort of shorthand usually for king. …

… It's amazing. Behold, I bring you good news of great joy for all the people. All the people. For unto you this day in the city of David is born a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign to you, he says. you'll find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. In a manger? Our Savior, the Christ, the Lord? By the way, those three titles are really important. Savior is a term that's used of God and also of other earthly kings and warriors. It means deliverer, rescuer. The Emperor Augustus, who ordered the census, he took on the title of Savior of the world. And Christ is a word, it's not Jesus' last name. It means in Hebrew, Messiah is the, Mashiach is the Hebrew, means anointed one. It typically was shorthand for king. So he is the savior, he is the king. And then he's the Lord. And the Lord is the highest authority in a given realm. …

This Must Be The Place
Levi Lusko, 2025-12-22 · Scripture reading

… I have a different message for Christmas Eve, but Luke 2 is very familiar. Now, there were in the same country, this is the night Jesus was born, shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, do not be afraid. One more of the 365 do not be afraids in the Bible, one for every day of the calendar year. I bring you, he says, behold, I bring you good tidings, of great joy, if you underline things, underline this next phrase, which will be to all people. How many of the people is this joy for? This joy that's not just regular joy, but great joy full of good tidings for all people. For there is born, and I love this, you can say this about yourself this Christmas, there is born to you. Who's this present for, right? In my family, my dad never could label presents right. I can't tell you how many presents I opened in my life, and he's like, oh, it's not for you, and he would, you know, and then hand it to your sister, hand it to your brother. …
