The High Cost of Unbelief
Skip Heitzig, 2026-09-20 · Scripture reading

… The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, to bind up the brokenhearted, to set at liberty those who are bound. And then he closed the book and he said, today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing. In other words, I am the one that scripture is speaking about. They didn't like it. They got upset because he said that. They took him to the brow of the hill in Nazareth to throw him off. Now he comes back a year later. and it's like he wants to reach out one final time, this time with his disciples in tow. He comes back to Nazareth. A lot has happened in that last year. His fame has spread. He has made many disciples. The crowds are huge. Many people have been healed, but he has met in Nazareth with unbelief, Not doubt, unbelief. And you need to know there's a difference between doubt and unbelief. Doubt is not the absence of faith. …

The Coming Of The King – Part 2
Jack Hibbs, 2026-05-27

… That's weird. He closes the book and he gave it back to the attendant and he sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing. Why? It's his first coming. That was his first coming. And here's what's amazing. He stopped at that period that you have in your Bible right there. If he would have kept reading, his next line would have been, and to bring the vengeance of almighty God. He stopped. He didn't keep reading. Why? Because the vengeance of the almighty God is coming at the end of the seven year tribulation period. we've been rescued by a little period right there amazing there's more look at malachi chapter 3 verse 1 kind of the same thing behold i send my messenger and he will prepare the way before me and the lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple you've read that in the new testament haven't you even the messenger of the covenant and you now know what that is whom you delight behold he is coming says the lord of hosts you know what if i would have kept reading in malachi 3 verse 2 if i if i get through my notes you'll see that would have been a lot of trouble because verse 2 tells you that he will bring vengeance and judgment upon the nations he stops god's promises Matthew chapter 21. …

He Shapes What He Sends | Chad Veach
Chad Veach, 2026-05-03

… that doesn't mean everyone will believe in you. Verse 20, then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began by saying to them, today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing. All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. Isn't this Joseph, son? Jesus said to them, surely you will quote this proverb to me, physician, heal yourself, and you will tell me, do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum. All the people in the synagogue, walk in verse 28, put it on the screen. All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. And they got up and drove him out of the town and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built in order to throw him off the cliff. they said to Jesus, you're not welcome here, buddy. …

God’s Good Design for Rest
David Platt, 2025-10-22

… of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor. And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing. Are you serious? Do you realize what just happened? Jesus just strolled into the synagogue on the Sabbath day. They just so happened to hand him the scroll of the prophet Isaiah, where he unrolls it to Isaiah chapter 61, the year of Jubilee being talked about, the ultimate year of rest and restoration. He sits down and in everybody's eyes looking at him, he says, I am the fulfillment of what I just read. How bold is that? Jesus just announced in this restless world world full of sin and evil and injustice and oppression and poverty and captivity and blindness and disease and death, Jesus just said, I have come to bring jubilee. I've come to bring the favor of God, to cancel debts against God, to restore what is wrong, to bring freedom from slavery to sin and death in order that you might experience the favor of the Lord. That's how it all starts. And then it just goes on from there. Look what Luke 4 says next. He went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. He was teaching them on the Sabbath. And they're astonished at his …

… And He says it will be a ministry with the anointing of the Spirit of the Lord. And then Jesus, in verse 20, closed the book, gave it back to the attendant, sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And he began to say to them, Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing. This is beyond shocking. He is saying, I am the Messiah. Now, we know that He was under the power and ministry of the Holy Spirit. We see that earlier in His ministry. We see it in His baptism. We see it when the Spirit of God comes upon Him, empowering Him for ministry, like chapter verse 1, Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness. Down in verse 14 again, the power of the Spirit is operating through Him. Jesus is simply declaring what has already been demonstrated. He is the fulfillment of Isaiah 61, 1 and 2. …
