… was seeing, he forgot to keep writing. The Lord says, keep on writing because everything you're seen is faithful and true. Then he said to me, it is done. I am the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. Who is it that is the builder of this new city? He said, I am the alpha and omega. That's the same description Jesus used of himself in Revelation 1.8. Alpha, the first letter of the Greek alphabet, Omega, the last. I'm the beginning and the end. I am all in all. What I want you to see is Jesus Christ, the son of God is the one who designs and builds this new city. You see, when Jesus left this world after his resurrection, he went into heaven and he went back to heaven for two reasons. Right now, Jesus is doing two things for your benefit. First of all, he is praying for you. He is interceding to God, his father on your half and my behalf. Hebrews 7, 25 says he lives to make intercession for us forever. But the only thing he's doing is not praying. He's doing something else as well. He's building a new home for you. Jesus is the architect of this new city called the new Jerusalem. And I guess it's good that he was a carpenter. He knows how to build things. He's just going to come in handy in this new heaven and this new earth. Who are going to …
… it is done. I am the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. I will freely give to the thirsty from the spring of the water of life. So don't miss this. In Genesis chapter two, God finished the work of creation. He completed his work. He said, it's finished. Now come and join a relationship with me. And that next day was the Sabbath and the Sabbath led to new life. In John chapter 19, Jesus finished fulfilling all righteousness, giving his life on a cross. And his last words on that cross were, it is finished. The work is good. It's done. The next day was Sabbath. The following day, new creation, new life. You get to Revelation 21. Jesus finishes the eternal redemption. He looks to John and he says, it's done. It's finished. The following day, new creation, eternal Sabbath. Jesus is the Sabbath. And this is why he can stand in Matthew 11, verse 28 and say, come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. …
… He said to me, It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega. the beginning and the end. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things. I will be his God and he shall be my child. Clap your hands and rejoice. The Bible leaves us in breathless wonder of what awaits us in a place that is called heaven. In the Bible, we're told that Paul in 2 Corinthians 12 took a trip. by God, he was taken and he said, whether I went in the spirit or I went in the body, I cannot tell, which is an amazing little insight there that people can go to heaven in their spirit. Of course, when they die, it goes to heaven, but people also can be taken by God, the physical body to heaven and have an insight like he got. And he said, I went to heaven. I saw it. I saw things. And then he made this statement. I saw things that are not lawful to even utter. I saw, and I was forbidden by the angel. You are not to tell this and you're not to write this. God has some sacred secrets that he's holding back in the place called heaven. …
And Jesus said that he is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Jesus gave all the Old Testament attributes of who God is to himself because he was. That very, very thing. Jesus was truth manifested to all of mankind. In Acts chapter, oh, I want to point these out. There's three things. I don't know if it's going to be on your screen or not, but paganism, for example. Paganism never claimed to have the truth. Paganism only claimed their truth Humanism never claimed to have the truth Only their truth And all of the isms I want you to think about that for a moment All of the isms never claimed to have the truth But they have their truth All of the isms including atheism, which is a religion, has their truth. But it's not the truth. and you and I today in the 21st century in this service we're celebrating the life of Jesus Christ we look forward to his coming but let's be honest if he doesn't come back for a thousand years it doesn't matter to us he's coming back hope today but if he doesn't come back today it doesn't matter for me because I'm going to go to him how why because he said I am the truth I am the way, I am the life and no one comes to the Father but through me? …
Revelation 1.8, this is Jesus speaking to the Apostle John. Jesus says, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, says the Lord, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. That's Jesus, the eternal Christ, the Son of God, uncreated, self-existent. And a personal favorite of mine on this topic of Jesus being eternal is John chapter 8, verses 52 through 59, more specifically verse 58. We see here in John 8, Then the Jews said to him, Now we know you have a demon. Abraham is dead, and the prophets. And you say, If anyone keeps my word, he shall never taste death. Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead? Who do you make yourself out to be? Jesus answered, If I honor myself, my honor is nothing. It is my father who honors me. of whom you say that he is your God. Yet you have not known him, but I know him. …
… it's speaking of jesus coming back and giving to people according to their work according to how they did what they did with what they were given. He says, I am the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. And then Revelation 22, 20, he says, he who testifies to these things says, surely I am coming quickly. so he's serious he repeated this three times he's coming quickly he's coming quickly he's coming quickly and our response what did the author say after that in revelation 22 20 after that it says amen which means let it be so be it amen even so come lord jesus even so come Lord Jesus, we want to be living our lives in light of his coming. We want to be living our lives on our toes, with our abs leaned in, ready for Jesus coming back. And he's coming quickly. He's coming quickly. How is that going to change the way we live our lives? Are we praying? Is the cry of our heart, even so, come, Lord Jesus. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. And I want to just pray for those who maybe haven't made that decision yet to follow Jesus. And today is the day. Now is the time. Today is the day of salvation. …
… for good is actually two words. It's the word alpha, and then it's a word that means voyage. Alpha would be alpha and omega, the beginning and the end, the number one and the eternal future. That's the Lord. So here's what I want you to look at. This is a very interesting word. It says, if your eye is good, let's break it down in this way. Two words. Number one is the word single or one. And the second word is voyage. If your eye is set on one voyage, the one thing, your entire body will be full of light. This is important. We don't have time for it now, but I do think there's something in this verse that will connect us to divine health. I think being diversified outside of where God has called us actually affects us emotionally. It affects us in areas of greed and lust. It affects us in areas of fear and anxiety. And all those things war at the affections of the soul that are supposed to be anchored in the Lord himself. All of these things war against our focus and our devotion to the one thing. …
… is God the expression of God on earth there was an occasion in which Jesus speaking in the last book of the Bible called himself what? The Alpha and Omega. The beginning and the end. He did not say the Alpha and then eventually the Omega. He is at once the Alpha and Omega. Not the Alpha and then a few millennia later, the omega. But at one time, he is the beginning and the end. Time passes around us. Time passes within him. There's no past, no future, just present. Mind-blowing, don't you think? How do we contrast the nature of God's timeless existence with our own time-defined existence? I mean, we are hemmed in on every side by calendars and clocks. I have a watch on. I'm looking at the countdown clock on the monitor here. You're mindful that the Cowboys are going to play, and you're wondering how long Lakato's going to preach. We're always thinking about time. God, on the other hand, is above time, unaffected by time. …
… We see this in Revelation 1 where he says the very same phrases. He says, I am the Alpha and the Omega. And he says later, I am the beginning and the end. He says in Revelation 1, I am the one who was and who is and who is to come. So he opens Revelation with I am the Alpha Omega. He ends Revelation with, I am the Alpha and the Omega. He wants us to know that the way it all goes down is, I start it and I end it. Anybody know the first verse of the Bible? Hello? Anybody know the very first verse in Genesis 1? Anybody? Come on, take a shot at it. Let's see a show of hands. Anybody? I got no hands. I got nobody that knows that. Okay, what is the very first book of the Bible? First verse, first words. Anybody? Say it all if you know it. In the beginning. I like how it kind of faded off there at the end. …
… Then he said to me, It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be my son. How do you overcome? Well, John writes in his epistle that faith is the instrument by which we overcome, putting our faith in the Lord. So to those who have put their trust in Him, we will be given everything we need from the springs of the water of life without cost. we will overcome insofar as our faith grasps salvation and thus inherit all things, and I will be his God and he will be my son. And then shattering verse 8, starkly in contrast to all those heavenly promises, but for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. That's stunning. …
… I give honor to God because God is the head of my life. God is the first and the last, the beginning and the end. The Greek New Testament tells us that God is the Alpha Chi Omega. … I give honor tonight to God who is the head of my life. God is the first and the last, the beginning and the end. The Greek New Testament tells us that God is the Alpha Chi Omega. … Write it down, for these words are trustworthy and true, for I have done it. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, and to him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. Then the vision continues of the seven angels who had the seven bowls and so on, came and said to me, Come and I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb, and He carried me away in the spirit to a mountain great and high and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, and it shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a precious jewel like jasper, clear as crystal. It had a great high wall with twelve gates and twelve angels. And then he goes and gives us this vivid description of this heavenly city that measures as a cube and it's fifteen hundred miles across the city. …
