Sermons on 1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it.No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.

… there is no temptation taking you but such as is common to man. But God who is faithful will not allow you to be tempted above your capacity to resist, but will with the temptation make a way of escape that you may be able to bear it. Let me paraphrase it. There's always a way out. He'll never give you too much. Sometimes it's as simple as the door, as simple as the off button, as simple as terminating a conversation, whatever it is. Lord, don't lead me into temptation, but deliver me from evil. There it is, the Lord's Prayer. Certainly not an exhaustive treatment. So much more that can be said about so many aspects of it. It's sort of a flyover. But what a privilege it is to pray. But does it ever seem to you as though you pray and no one is listening? Does it ever seem to you like God doesn't hear or answer your prayers? Well, look, prayer is a privilege for a Christian. …

… Look at 1 Corinthians 10, 13. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man. But God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you're able, but with the temptation will also make a way of escape that you may be able to bear it. Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. Notice he says that in connection with the temptation. Colossians 3.5, Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth, fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. In the New Living Translation, it says, Don't be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater worshiping the things of this world. Don't get caught up worshiping things in this world. You know why? because he's a jealous God. He's an all-consuming fire and he loves you with a pure and a holy love. And he doesn't want to share your attention because he's in love with you. When you get a chance, go and read Song of Solomon chapter 8 when the Shulamite talks about this love, this jealous love demanding as the grave. …

… Some of you need to think that through for a moment. In 1 Corinthians 10, verse 13, it says, No temptation. This is awesome. No temptation has overtaken you except such as common to man. Remember Flip Wilson for those of us in this room, like all three of us? The devil, the devil made me do it. That's not true. The devil cannot make you do anything. Temptation is launched against all of us. It's common, it's normal. But God is faithful. Who will allow you to be tempted, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able. please let that sink in my old girlfriend called me up from high school. She said she wanted to talk. I don't know why, but I met her down at the store. I don't know why. And then we went out and had dinner, and then we crossed the line, and now my wife wants to leave me. I don't know why. Wow. Everybody's going to be tempted, but do not consent. …

The Way Out
Michael Zeigler, 2025-11-01

… he will also provide the way out that you may be able to endure it. That's from 1 Corinthians 10, verse 13. Some people take this to mean God won't give you more than you can handle. It's not necessarily a wrong way to take the verse. For you, who trust in Jesus, it only becomes wrong when you put yourself or any other mere human in the wrong part of the story. It becomes wrong when you imagine yourself as the hero, rather than pressing your palms together and bowing to Jesus. Who is the hero of this story? That's the bigger question behind the Bible passage from 1 Corinthians. the writer of the letter, the letter to the church in Corinth, the writer was a man named Paul. In the letter, Paul is addressing Christians who forgot their place in the story. They started to think that they were the heroes. Paul says they have gotten puffed up on their own importance, full of themselves, worshiping their local heroes, waving for the crowd. They'd forgotten where we are in the story. So Paul reminds them. He wants them to see themselves as living out the ongoing plotline of the Bible, especially as it's patterned on the Old Testament book of Numbers. …

Every Age Has a Stage

… So you're right. It's a wonderful summary, 1 Corinthians 10, verse 13, of God's gospel provisions for people in the wilderness of life. So Paul summarizes numbers in 13 verses 2,000 years ago. How would you, how would Reed Lessing summarize numbers for today, for 2025, for Christians? Right, right. And I've given some thought to that. And a wonderful summary is simply Numbers 1 verse 1. The Lord spoke to Moses. This is a speaking God, and he speaks his word. And at the end of chapter 7 in Numbers, it says God speaks from above the mercy seat. So God speaks mercy to Moses. Moses, right, the main human leader in the wilderness of Sinai, the tent of meeting. There you've got the presence of Christ. The first day, the second month, the second year, after they'd come out of the land of Egypt. This is the God who rescues people with a mighty hand and outstretched arm. So you've got really all the major people and places and theology and gospel right there in the first verse of the book. …

We Are Never Getting Back Together
Levi Lusko, 2025-08-18

… do, and you did it. Verse 13, 1 Corinthians 10, no temptation has ever overtaken you except that which is common to man. But God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear Do you hear what God's saying? The devil would love for you to think every time you're tempted, you just have to give in anyway. It's inevitable, but it's not. You can overcome, and I wanna show you how. Galatians 5, 16, walk in the spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. The mistake a lot of us make is we hear that, like, okay, he wrote this so I may not sin. This week, new goal, hadn't thought of it before, but now I'm gonna, not gonna sin anymore. And then you're gonna come back next week and you'll be very frustrated. And you'll be like, I tried all week to not sin, and that's all I did. …

… Look at God's promise. No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man. Let me translate that for you real fast. The Bible's saying the temptations you deal with are the same temptations that all of us deal with. No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man. Can nobody be in church today and be like, dang, you got tempted with it? I've never been tempted with that. I've never, oh, I'm just so righteous. No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man, and God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear, but when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. Come on, clap and thank God today. He'll never allow the temptation to become so much. I had to give in. How could I not? How can I resist? I'll tell you how I resist. God said it's not going to be too much, and it's not going to be too heavy, and he's going to provide a way of escape. There is a way of escape today for the temptation that you're dealing with. Come on. Thank God today. That's the power. God is faithful. …

I Gotta Stop Messing with Them

… No temptation has overtaken you except which is common. And God is faithful. He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way of escape. on the back of every hotel door is a diagram that pinpoints you are here they show you that diagram so in the case of an emergency you know how to get out of there i want every person of you just lift up that right hand no matter where you're seated no matter where you are positioned. I need you to hear the voice of God. You are here. And before 12 midnight, he's going to show you how to get out of something. Somebody ought to be clapping for that. Fight for Your Family - Part 2
John K. Jenkins Sr., 2025-03-10

… I talked about all of those one at a time last week. And then I gave you our first Corinthians chapter 10, verse 13, that says that no temptation overtaken you has overtaken you except such as common to man. I gave you a scripture of how to get out of sexual temptation, how to get out of these problems, that God is faithful. He will allow you to be tempted above what you are able. He will always make a way of escape and that you'll be able to bear it. I gave you that. Some of y'all took advantage of it this week. Some of y'all kept on doing what you normally do. but God Nehemiah was given some specific steps that I want to give you today of how he was able to build the wall in 52 days he rebuilt the walls around Jerusalem in 52 days a record time 52 days and how he fought he gives us a plan on how he fought it's in verse 14 can I read verse 14 again Okay, go ahead. …

Fight for Your Family - Part 1
John K. Jenkins Sr., 2025-03-10

… Here's the answer. First Corinthians chapter 10, verse 13. Let me read this to you. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man. That means you ain't the only one being tempted like this. Everybody's going to be tempted sexually. But God, here's what I love about verse 13. But God is faithful. Here's what it says. We serve a God who is faithful. And what is God? That's enough to shout about right there that we serve a God who's faithful. What is he faithful to? God is faithful. He will, number one, he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able. Boy, that's something to shout about right there. That God will never allow you to be in a situation that is beyond your capacity to handle. If you're in the situation, he knows he's put enough in you to be able to handle it. He will not only do that. He will not only, he's faithful not to allow you to be put in a situation beyond what you're able, but he will, with the temptation, also make the way of escape. …

… do all things through Christ who strengthens me. There is no temptation taken me, but such as is common to man, and God is faithful, who will not allow me to be tempted above what I am able, but will with the temptation make a way of escape. Chapter 3 of Ephesians, verse 20 says, Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us." That's the Holy Spirit working in us. The power is the Lord. You're like a guard. If the enemy approaches, you don't fight the battle, you go to the commander. Tell the commander, and he'll come out and fight that battle for you. This isn't about flexing some spiritual muscles of your own. This is about turning to Christ for strength. That power that works in us is the very power that raised Christ from the dead. So our strength is found in Him. I was thinking of Colossians 1. …

… Now, what about wisdom for the temptations of our life? I want you to turn, if you will, to First Corinthians chapter ten, verse thirteen. No temptation. Now, what is no? What does that mean? Not any. No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man. That is, everybody's been tempted by many, many things. And God is faithful who will not allow you, look at that, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you're able, that is what you're able to deal with. He set a limitation on our temptations. But with the temptation will provide the way of escape also that you may be able to endure it. Now, for the unbeliever, that won't work. He's writing to believers. You don't have the promise that God's going to help you in time of temptation if you have rejected His Son, who is the source of all of the good things that come our way, the source of salvation and the source of our strength day by day through His indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. …

… DON'T EVEN COME NEAR HER HOUSE. THE BIBLE SAYS, THERE HAS NO TEMPTATION TAKEN YOU, BUT SUCH AS IS COMMON TO MAN. AND GOD IS FAITHFUL, WHO WILL NOT SUFFER YOU TO BE TEMPTED ABOVE THAT YOU'RE ABLE, BUT WILL WITH THE TEMPTATION MAKE A WAY TO ESCAPE. AND MY DEAR FRIEND, OFTEN THE WAY TO ESCAPE IS TWO LEGS, THE KING'S HIGHWAY, AND A HARD RUN. YOU JUST GET OUT OF THERE. YOU SATURATE THAT PLACE WITH YOUR ABSENCE. YOU DON'T, YOU DON'T HANG AROUND THOSE KIND OF PLACES. YOU DON'T HANG AROUND THAT KIND OF LITERATURE. YOU DON'T GO TO KIND OF MOVIES. YOU DON'T DO IT. YOU JUST SIMPLY DON'T DO IT. JOSEPH IN THE BIBLE. was a holy man. There was a woman who wanted to seduce Joseph. It was Mrs. Potiphar, Potiphar's wife. Joseph was like a servant in the house.
