… Harry just read it. You can flip back in your bulletin. 1 Corinthians chapter 15, verses 12 through 23. I won't read the whole passage, but just highlight a few things. Here's what Paul says about the resurrection and our salvation. Just highlight verse 14. He says, if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. Verse 17, if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. verse 18 those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished and finally verse 19 if in Christ we have hope in this life only we are of all people most to be pitied so friends we see in this text that the resurrection is an essential part of our salvation. In fact, Paul's logic is that if the resurrection is not true, then everything else unravels. He says we would be found to be liars about God. He says your faith would be in vain. He says you would still be in your sins. …

… that's the assurance that resurrection life will introduce you to eternity. verse 17 if christ is not risen then your faith is futile you are still in your sins if Jesus isn't raised from the dead then you're still stuck in sin but I thought it was the blood that wiped away sin if he died and wasn't raised doesn't the blood still deal with sin? to me the death and resurrection of Christ are two sides of the same coin the death of Christ was proven valid because of the resurrection it was the resurrection that put the stamp of approval if you will on the power of the blood of Jesus so we never get to separate those two realities the death and resurrection of Christ because they work in tandem. The death of Christ, the blood of Jesus, pulls us out of the red. The resurrection puts us into the black. It was never meant for us just to be sin free. We were meant, designed to be the righteousness of Christ. …

… then not even Christ has been raised. And in verse 14, and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is useless and so is your faith. Then dropping down to verse 16, he says, doubling back again, for if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, Your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. If only for this life, Paul says in verse 19, if only for this life we have hope in Christ. We, the people of God, are of all people most to be pitied. But in verse 20, this is our anthem. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all died, so in Christ all will be made alive. Amen. Amen? This is our story. So today we're going to work our way through just over 50 verses from John chapter 11. …

… Second, he says, verse 17, and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you're still in your sins. You see, the resurrection was the validation that God had accomplished our salvation on the cross. So if Christ didn't rise, Jesus's death didn't really accomplish anything. It was just a random martyr of another good man. And so your faith in Christ, Paul says, your faith in Christ the Savior has been misplaced. Thirdly, verse 18, he says, if Christ is not raised, then those who have fallen asleep in Christ, they have perished. If Christ didn't rise from the dead, all those saints in the Bible who died believing the promises of God, they're not better any better off than those who paid no attention. Faithful believers in the Old Testament always looked forward to some future earthly hope. Job, for example, I know that my Redeemer lives and in the end, he's going to stand on the earth and I'm going to stand with him. …

Easter 2018

… if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only? We are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, for by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive, but each in his own order. Christ, the firstfruits, then at his coming, those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father, after destroying every rule and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For God has put all things in subjection under his feet. But when it says all things are put in subjection, it is plain that he is accepted who put all things in subjection under him. When all things are subjected to him, then the son himself will also be subjected to him who puts all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all. Otherwise, what do people mean by being baptized on behalf of the dead? If the dead are …
