Hey, Jude! | J.D. Greear

Next verse. He was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures. The gospel is the good news that God sent his son to suffer for your sin and my sin in our place so that we could be reconciled to God and thereafter live holy lives in fellowship with him. The gospel is that we could not save ourselves. So God did not give us a rescue plan that we could execute by ourselves. He gave us a plan that he did all by himself that you could only receive as a gift. and in response to that gift, you owe him everything. When you embrace this, and then you focus your whole life on proclaiming it, that's what it looks like to be called, loved, and kept. The thought of his beloved church losing that is what provoked Jude to write this letter so that he might contend for that faith delivered once for all to the saints. So here's the obvious question this morning. …

How Jesus People Share Jesus
Pastor Nate Heitzig, 2026-05-31

… according to the scriptures, that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day according to the scripture. Embed that thought deeply in your mind. Embed that thought. Christ died for our sins. he was buried and he rose again and we've all broken one or all of the ten commandments haven't we we're all guilty we're all sinners all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of god don't believe me have you ever taken the lord's name in vain have you ever lied have you ever coveted have you ever been angry with somebody james 2 10 says that if you offend on one point of the law, you're guilty of all of it. And so seeing our complete weakness, our inability to do anything whatsoever to alleviate our wretched condition, God did the ultimate for us. Recognizing that our righteousness could never get us to heaven, God imputed his righteousness upon our lives and made us righteous by his blood, dying for our sins. Romans 5, 6 says, Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely a righteous man will one die, yet perhaps a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates his love towards us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Why did Christ die for us? Because there was no other way to satisfy the righteous demands of God. Why did Christ die for us? Because we had no ability to improve ourselves, much less save ourselves. Why did Christ die for us? Because we faced a future in hell because of our sin. …

… resurrection he didn't think his own brother was God? Because according to 1 Corinthians 15, the earliest evidence for the resurrection in the entire Bible, an ancient creed, 1 Corinthians 15 verses three to eight. One of the people to whom Jesus appeared to was James, his brother. Before the resurrection, James said, yo, bro, you're not God. After the resurrection, he said, yo, bro, you're God. Now, how many people in here have a brother? All right. How many people have a brother who thinks he's God? Yeah. You don't believe in him either. Neither did James. It took a resurrection. Jesus is called a madman. He's called a drunkard. He's called demon possessed. Do you think they invented this? He has his feet, white, but the hair of a prostitute, which easily could have been seen as a sexual advance. And oh, by the way, there are two prostitutes in Jesus's bloodline. Who are they? Rahab and Tamar. Now, do you think Matthew, when he was recording the genealogy, said to himself, you know what? …

Second Chances and First Impressions
Michael Zeigler, 2026-04-26

… that Christ died on account of our sins, according to the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day, according to the scriptures, in fulfillment of the scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, then to the twelve, and then he appeared publicly to more than 500 brothers at the same time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep, some have died. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, then last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared to me. See, I am the least of all the apostles, not worthy to be called an apostle because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God, I am what I am. And God's grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them. Though not I, but God's grace with me. So whether it was I or they, so we preached and so you believed. Now if Christ is proclaimed, as raised from the dead, how is it that some of you are saying that there is no resurrection of the dead? …

A Conversation About Heaven

… 31 says these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ the son of God and that believing you may have life in his name the first Corinthians 15 verses 3 and 4 says I delivered to you first of all that which I also received that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and that he was buried and then he rose again the third day according to the scriptures and three confess with your mouth what you believe this is where it all comes together you know just praying the prayer just going through the motion of praying the prayer just I raised my hand and I'm trusting in my hand being raised or I trust in getting dipped in the pacific ocean it doesn't cut it because unless you did this none of that is true or real you have to do this you have to confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and you have to believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, and you will be saved. …

Ladies and Gentlemen, Meet Jesus
Skip Heitzig, 2026-03-15

… that Jesus died for our sins according to the scripture, that he was buried, and that he rose again on the third day according to the scriptures. That's the gospel. That's the message. Not a book, a message. Our English word gospel comes from our old English Anglo-Saxon word godspell, godspell, now shortened to the word gospel. Gospel or godspell means good news. The Greek word euangelion means the same thing, good news. I like to say it better, glad news. It's glad news. It's glad tidings. It's the glad tidings, the good news about Jesus Christ. It's the greatest story ever told because it's about the greatest person who ever lived. That's the gospel. Now, the word gospel would be a familiar word to a Jewish audience, and it would be a familiar word to a Gentile audience, a non-Jewish audience. Both of those audiences were familiar with the term gospel. The Jewish audience would be familiar with that word because it shows up in the Old Testament. and it was a message of deliverance that was promised. …

Easter 2018
Francis Chan, 2018-04-01

… in accordance with the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas and then to the 12. Then he appeared to more than 500 brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, although some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James and then to all the apostles, last of all, to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God, I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is in me. whether then it was I or they so we preach and so you believed now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead how can some of you say that there's no resurrection of the dead if there's no resurrection of the dead then not even Christ has been raised and if Christ has not been raised then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain we are even found to be misrepresenting God because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise, if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has …
