… resurrection he didn't think his own brother was God? Because according to 1 Corinthians 15, the earliest evidence for the resurrection in the entire Bible, an ancient creed, 1 Corinthians 15 verses three to eight. One of the people to whom Jesus appeared to was James, his brother. Before the resurrection, James said, yo, bro, you're not God. After the resurrection, he said, yo, bro, you're God. Now, how many people in here have a brother? All right. How many people have a brother who thinks he's God? Yeah. You don't believe in him either. Neither did James. It took a resurrection. Jesus is called a madman. He's called a drunkard. He's called demon possessed. Do you think they invented this? He has his feet, white, but the hair of a prostitute, which easily could have been seen as a sexual advance. And oh, by the way, there are two prostitutes in Jesus's bloodline. Who are they? Rahab and Tamar. Now, do you think Matthew, when he was recording the genealogy, said to himself, you know what? …
… and then he appeared publicly to more than 500 brothers at the same time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep, some have died. Now if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is empty and your faith is empty. …
… I would call it a brother from the same mother. A text from 1 Corinthians 15, verse 7. in the midst of this list of the post-resurrection appearances of Jesus. You read this tucked away in verse 7. After that, he was seen by James and by all of the apostles. Something you wouldn't know without that. after that he was seen by James I don't know about you, but sibling rivalry has a certain fascination for me. And for some other people, political people, entertainment people, athletic people, where fathers and sons are siblings on the same athletic game. You see it in politics. You see it in entertainment. You see it in athletics. You see it with people who otherwise are unknown, incognito, anonymous families, sibling rivalry. You know, back in the day, in the 70s, the President of the United States was Jimmy Carter, a very distinguished man, had a Ph.D. in physics. He was a submarine commander, a graduate of the military institute in Annapolis. Very accomplished man. …
