Humility Personified │ Msg 10/14
Chuck Swindoll, 2026-07-07

… all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me. Now here it is. For I am gentle and humble in heart. And you shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my load is light. Thank you. there you have the answer. The only place that I can find in all God's revelation where Jesus tells us what his heart was like. It was a heart of gentleness, and it was a heart of humility. Now, unfortunately, both terms have suffered much from misuse and misunderstanding. There are some who feel to be humble or to be meek is to become insignificant, unworthy, spineless, lacking in discernment, small. Doesn't mean that at all. In fact, if you were to take the word humility in its basic Greek term, translated here in verse 29, humble, and go back to where it is reasonably safe to stop in the etymological study of that Greek word, you would find it means to stoop low. …

God’s Got You | Pastor Holly Furtick | Elevation Church
Pastor Holly Furtick, 2026-05-10 · Scripture reading

… back at Matthew 11, verse 28. It says, come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. At that time, Jesus went through the grain fields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, look, your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath. He answered, haven't you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He entered the house of God and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread, which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. Or haven't you read the law that the priests on the Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath yet are innocent? I tell you that something greater than the temple is here. If you had known what these words meant, I desire mercy, not sacrifice. You would not have condemned the innocent for the son of man is Lord of the Sabbath. …

Jesus People - Vision Weekend
Pastor Nate Heitzig, 2026-03-08

… Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart. And you will find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. That is the simple joy of following Jesus. That is what an unbelieving world longs for. That is what people are searching for when it says that people are interested and curious in the spiritual. Do you know what they're looking for? It's like that USA Today article says they've come to an end of their emotional resources. They are burdened. They are weary. They are longing for something more. They're longing for a joy and a peace that doesn't come from a new sexual relationship or a new conquest or the last party that we're at the week before or some new chemical addiction. They're looking for something different, something that lasts, something that satisfies. They're looking for release from their weariness, release from their burdens to take the heavy yoke of this world and sin off of their shoulders and find the humility and grace of Jesus Christ. …

… He says, come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. And so, Lord Jesus, I pray that we would all come to you, that we would find rest in you, that you would give us the discipline, that you would give us the wisdom to do what we know we need to, even when we don't feel like it, so we could experience you in a new way, that you could shape us into new people, so that this upcoming year would be better than the year that came before. We pray all of this in your name. Amen and amen. Thank you.

God’s Good Design for Rest
David Platt, 2025-10-22

… and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, learn from me for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls. Don't miss what the whole Bible is teaching here. The reason Jesus came is to bring rest to our weary souls. Don't miss what all the scripture is telling us today, right now that Jesus came to do what no day off, no vacation, no getaway, no unplug and watch whatever streaming service or social media scrolling or no sabbatical, what no one, no thing, nothing in this world can do. Jesus came to bring rest for your soul in relationship with God himself. He came to bring the perpetual rest that your creator designed for you from the beginning of creation with him. This is the gospel. It's the greatest news in all the world. We are wired to work in order to achieve, to get this or that. And the religions of this world are built on this principle. Follow this eightfold path in Buddhism. Pay homage to any of these hundreds of millions of gods in Hinduism. Keep these five pillars in Islam. Work, work, work to get to God. And Jesus comes on the scene and says, no, I do the work. I have come to live with no sin and I have come to die for your sin, to make the way for your soul to be restored to God. I do the work. Think about the Sabbath, every seven days, every seven years, God's saying, put aside your work. You don't depend on …

Love’s Way With the Self
Tim Keller, 1996-04-21

… that's the reason why jesus comes to us and he says come to me all you who are weary and burdened and i will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn of me for i am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls for my yoke of grace is easy and my burden my burden is light let's pray our father give us this new way with a self from which real love can grow. Oh, Lord, without this change of heart, we're capable of loving deeds. We're capable of loving feelings, but nothing like this. Give us this new way with the self that comes from accepting your bleeding charity, the bleeding charity of your son. Help us to humble ourselves into boldness and freedom by accepting your grace and becoming lovers indeed. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
