Matthew 15

1Then some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked,Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem, saying,Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,Then there come to Jesus from Jerusalem Pharisees and scribes, saying, 2“Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They do not wash their hands before they eat.”“Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their hands when they eat bread.”Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. 3Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? He answered them, “Why do you also disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition? But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? And he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? 4For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.’For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. For God said, Honor thy father and thy mother: and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death. 5But you say that if anyone says to his father or mother, ‘Whatever you would have received from me is a gift devoted to God,’But you say, ‘Whoever may tell his father or his mother, “Whatever help you might otherwise have gotten from me is a gift devoted to God,”But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, That wherewith thou mightest have been profited by me is given to God; 6he need not honor his father or mother with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.he shall not honor his father or mother.’ You have made the commandment of God void because of your tradition. And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.he shall not honor his father. And ye have made void the word of God because of your tradition. 7You hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you:You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, 8‘These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.‘These people draw near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.This people honoreth me with their lips; But their heart is far from me. 9They worship Me in vain; they teach as doctrine the precepts of men.’”And they worship me in vain, teaching as doctrine rules made by men.’”But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men. 10Jesus called the crowd to Him and said, “Listen and understand. He summoned the multitude, and said to them, “Hear, and understand. And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:And he called to him the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand: 11A man is not defiled by what enters his mouth, but by what comes out of it.”That which enters into the mouth doesn’t defile the man; but that which proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man.”Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.Not that which entereth into the mouth defileth the man; but that which proceedeth out of the mouth, this defileth the man. 12Then the disciples came to Him and said, “Are You aware that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?”Then the disciples came and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? Then came the disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, when they heard this saying? 13But Jesus replied, “Every plant that My heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by its roots. But he answered, “Every plant which my heavenly Father didn’t plant will be uprooted. But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.But he answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father planted not, shall be rooted up. 14Disregard them! They are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. If the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit.”Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.Let them alone: they are blind guides. And if the blind guide the blind, both shall fall into a pit. 15Peter said to Him, “Explain this parable to us.”Peter answered him, “Explain the parable to us.”Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. And Peter answered and said unto him, Declare unto us the parable. 16“Do you still not understand?” Jesus asked. So Jesus said, “Do you also still not understand? And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? And he said, Are ye also even yet without understanding? 17“Do you not yet realize that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then is eliminated?Don’t you understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly and then out of the body?Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?Perceive ye not, that whatsoever goeth into the mouth passeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things defile a man.But the things which proceed out of the mouth come out of the heart, and they defile the man.But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart; and they defile the man. 19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, and slander. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, railings: 20These are what defile a man, but eating with unwashed hands does not defile him.”These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands doesn’t defile the man.”These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.these are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not the man. 21Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon.Jesus went out from there and withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon. Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. And Jesus went out thence, and withdrew into the parts of Tyre and Sidon. 22And a Canaanite woman from that region came to Him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is miserably possessed by a demon.”Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders and cried, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David! My daughter is severely possessed by a demon!”And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. And behold, a Canaanitish woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a demon. 23But Jesus did not answer a word. So His disciples came and urged Him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”But he answered her not a word. His disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away; for she cries after us.”But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. 24He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”But he answered, “I wasn’t sent to anyone but the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. But he answered and said, I was not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 25The woman came and knelt before Him. “Lord, help me!” she said. But she came and worshiped him, saying, “Lord, help me.”Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.But she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. 26But Jesus replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”But he answered, “It is not appropriate to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs. And he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread and cast it to the dogs. 27“Yes, Lord,” she said, “even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”But she said, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. But she said, Yea, Lord: for even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. 28“O woman,” Jesus answered, “your faith is great! Let it be done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour. Then Jesus answered her, “Woman, great is your faith! Be it done to you even as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that hour. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it done unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was healed from that hour. 29Moving on from there, Jesus went along the Sea of Galilee. Then He went up on a mountain and sat down.Jesus departed from there and came near to the sea of Galilee; and he went up on the mountain and sat there. And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there. And Jesus departed thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and he went up into the mountain, and sat there. 30Large crowds came to Him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and laid them at His feet, and He healed them.Great multitudes came to him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others, and they put them down at his feet. He healed them,And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them:And there came unto him great multitudes, having with them the lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and they cast them down at his feet; and he healed them: 31The crowd was amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled restored, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel.so that the multitude wondered when they saw the mute speaking, the injured healed, the lame walking, and the blind seeing—and they glorified the God of Israel.Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb speaking, the maimed whole, and the lame walking, and the blind seeing: and they glorified the God of Israel. 32Then Jesus called His disciples to Him and said, “I have compassion for this crowd, because they have already been with Me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may faint along the way.”Jesus summoned his disciples and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have continued with me now three days and have nothing to eat. I don’t want to send them away fasting, or they might faint on the way.”Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.And Jesus called unto him his disciples, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days and have nothing to eat: and I would not send them away fasting, lest haply they faint on the way. 33The disciples replied, “Where in this desolate place could we find enough bread to feed such a large crowd?”The disciples said to him, “Where could we get so many loaves in a deserted place as to satisfy so great a multitude?”And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude? And the disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so many loaves in a desert place as to fill so great a multitude? 34“How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.”Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven, and a few small fish.”And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes. And Jesus said unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few small fishes. 35And He instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground. He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground; And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground; 36Taking the seven loaves and the fish, He gave thanks and broke them. Then He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.and he took the seven loaves and the fish. He gave thanks and broke them, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes. And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.and he took the seven loaves and the fishes; and he gave thanks and brake, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes. 37They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. They all ate and were filled. They took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left over. And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full. And they all ate, and were filled: and they took up that which remained over of the broken pieces, seven baskets full. 38A total of four thousand men were fed, besides women and children. Those who ate were four thousand men, in addition to women and children. And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children. And they that did eat were four thousand men, besides women and children. 39After Jesus had dismissed the crowds, He got into the boat and went to the region of Magadan. Then he sent away the multitudes, got into the boat, and came into the borders of Magdala. And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala. And he sent away the multitudes, and entered into the boat, and came into the borders of Magadan.
