When she says those words, she says, But Lord, even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the master's table. I think you could hear this in many ways, but I think that one accurate way is to hear this woman through this lens. Basically, she's essentially saying, I'm willing to receive from you whatever you are willing to give to me. even the even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the master's table i'm willing to receive from you whatever you're willing to give to me so if it's scraps that's great i'll receive that i'll receive them from your hands and this is the thing we have to know faith so often is nothing more than trust faith so often is just we use the term surrender and when i say surrender we say surrender, we don't mean giving up. What we mean is, I will accept whatever you're willing to let me have. That's the kind of faith, that's the kind of, when Jesus looks at her and says, that's great faith. He said, I'm willing to accept, I'm willing to receive from you whatever you're willing to give to me. …
But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and urged him saying, send her away. for she cries out after us. She's so annoying. But he answered and said, I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then she came and worshiped him. Another translation says she kneeled down before him saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, it is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs. And she said, yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their master's table. Then Jesus answered and said to her, oh, woman, great is your faith. Let it be to you as you desire. And her daughter was healed from that very hour. And God, we thank you for your word. we tremble before it. It's powerful. It's living. It's you. It's you speaking to us. So would you open our eyes? Would you open the eyes of our hearts? …
… Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us. He answered, I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel. The woman came and knelt before him. Lord, help me, she said. He replied, it's not right to take the children's bread and toss it to the dogs. Yes, it is, Lord. even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table. Then Jesus said to her, woman, you have great faith. Your request is granted. And her daughter was healed at that moment. This is the word of God. You may be seated. the shadows are lengthening the clouds are thickening as Jesus moves to Calvary four times in the gospels Jesus is looking for a place a respite. He's trying to retire away from his friends and foes. He's trying to seek asylum from his adversaries and advocates. Jesus is trying to steal a way to be alone somewhere away from the political and the religious figures. As the ecclesiastical leaders who are coming after him, Jesus is trying to find someplace where he can retire and be alone to enter into silence and solitude. …
