… you can have tribulation and know that Jesus has overcome. But Jesus gave us the illustration. The gospel writers recount it. Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side while he dismissed the crowd. And after he had dismissed them, he went upon a mountainside by himself to pray. Now we saw this in the close the door part of this collection. Later that night, he was there alone and the boat was already a considerable distance from land buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. Sinking In The Storm
Steven Furtick, 2025-08-25

… So I'm excited about Jesus. I want to preach about Jesus today from Matthew chapter 14, verses 22 through 35. First Bible story that I ever preached for our last sermon in the series, That's What I Thought. Tell your neighbor, that's what I thought. I say this is the last one. I think it's the last one. If the Lord wants me to keep going, I will. but my plan is today to take some of the things we've been preaching about and minister them to your heart. Welcome to all of our locations. Put it in the comment on YouTube. That's what I thought. This is our final installment. Yeah, this is the first Bible story I ever preached, so I always try to preach it at least once a year just to check in and see how dumb I was the last time I preached it or what new thing God will show me. Glad you're here today. Welcome. Welcome to the presence of God. Welcome to a new beginning. Welcome to a space where grace reigns supreme and where Jesus is Lord and King. Welcome to a place where you can hear his word. …

This thing was not incidental, it was providential. Put in your margin, Matthew chapter 14 and verse 22. The Bible says in straightway Jesus constrained His disciples to get into a ship. Now, he said, you must do it. It was Jesus who sent them into this storm. It may be that God has engineered your storm. I mean, God has engineered your storm. If he has not engineered it, listen, if he has not engineered it, he has certainly allowed it because our God is over everything. I was reading Psalm 107, verses 24 and following. These see the works of the Lord and his wonders in the deep. For he commandeth and raiseth the stormy wind which lifteth up the waves thereof. It's God who is the master of the winds and the waves. And he's the one who causes storms to come. You know it is a shallow theology. A very shallow theology that says if we're in the will of God. That we're just going to sail always smoothly on the sea of life. …
