First Bible story that I ever preached for our last sermon in the series, That's What I Thought. Tell your neighbor, that's what I thought. I say this is the last one. I think it's the last one. If the Lord wants me to keep going, I will. but my plan is today to take some of the things we've been preaching about and minister them to your heart. Welcome to all of our locations. Put it in the comment on YouTube. That's what I thought. This is our final installment. Yeah, this is the first Bible story I ever preached, so I always try to preach it at least once a year just to check in and see how dumb I was the last time I preached it or what new thing God will show me. Glad you're here today. Welcome. Welcome to the presence of God. Welcome to a new beginning. Welcome to a space where grace reigns supreme and where Jesus is Lord and King. Welcome to a place where you can hear his word. …
Luke 9:28,29. "And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, He was there alone. … And the Bible says, And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray. Listen, don't think that he has forsaken you just because you cannot see him. When you're in the storm, he may not be with you in bodily form, but he is very much aware of you. I love that song. His eyes on the sparrow and I know he watches me. Let me give you another verse from one of the other gospels. Put this one down in Mark chapter six. beginning in verse 47. And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea and he alone on the land. There in the sea, Jesus is on the shore. Now watch this. And he saw them toiling in rowing. He saw them. Did you know that he sees you right now? You say, he, he doesn't know where I am. He doesn't know this difficulty. Why is he so far away? Why am I in the storm and he on the shore? …
In Luke 6.12 it tells us that he went up into a mountain and continued all night in prayer to God. Matthew 14.23 says, He sent the multitudes away and departed and went up into a mountain apart. and then that famous passage in Matthew 26 39 where it says that he told his disciples to come near and stay with him then he said now you stay here and pray and he went a little further now those verses I have given you establish the truth if it needed to be established that our Lord had a habit of every once in a while departing from the multitudes and going somewhere by himself into a desert, up into a mountain, or up under the trees in the olive yard, anywhere where he could be by himself. This was not only true of our Lord Jesus Christ, but true also of the worthy saints. I was thinking as I rode along on the train about this and I was thinking about that man Enoch now no doubt Enoch was a married man he was a married man, a man of family he left at least one son behind him he no doubt had to make a living of some sort he didn't live merely on spirituality he had to eat and a place to keep his family and yet we don't learn very much about his family at all. …
