… that are happening at the Sea of Galilee. One is in Matthew chapter eight. Both of them are pointing to the same thing. And all three gospels are pointing to the same thing. These stories are not simply telling us about a storm that happened a long time ago. with Jesus in the boat, the story's about us. Like when we read it, we're meant to remember that what Jesus did a long time ago for the disciples is what he still does in our lives today. And so the first point to be made in this message is that storms happen. There are storms that happen at life. Now, the storms that happen in life, sometimes they're just normal storms, like we see in this story. We've had a lot of big storms here in Kansas City recently, so that there was microbursts and there was some severe damage, maybe tornadoes in Wyandotte County recently, and damage still being cleaned up and terrible hailstorms and thunder and lightning. It's been pretty dramatic this summer, the storms we've had. …
… oh, look at this, Matthew 14, Lord, if it's you, Peter replied, tell me to come to you on the water. Come, he said. Then Peter got out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. But But when he saw the wind and he was afraid and began to sink, he cried out, Lord, save me. Lord, Lord. But I went back to my old Lord. Lord, I started to think the Clippers were going to be good this year. I'm so sorry, Lord. I just can't believe I went. Sorry, this sink. You know, you got to ask yourself a question. Do you want to have a sinking life or do you want to have a standing life? To stand in the freedom that's in Christ. I keep my eyes on Jesus. I keep my eyes on the prize. When I show up in heaven, I will not be held accountable for your life. When I show up in heaven, I will be held accountable for what I did with my time on earth, for what I did with Zoe Church. And while God allowed me to pastor this great community, I will be held accountable for my marriage and my parenting and what I did with my resources. So in order for me to fulfill my, I got to keep my eyes on Jesus. I hope that you're fulfilling your calling, but I got to make sure I'm standing firm in the grace that's in God. …
… He said, Come. Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw how strong the wind was, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, Lord, save me. Immediately, Jesus stretched out his hand and caught Peter and said to him, O you of little faith, why did you doubt? After they got into the boat, the wind died down. Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying, Truly, you are the Son of God. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for having a seat. So Joshua Slocum was 51 years old when he left Boston Harbor in 1895. At 51 years old, he got on a 27, 37 foot oyster boat. And he began to sail around the world completely by himself. took him three years three years and two months 1895 left boston and traveled over the pacific ocean the the the indian ocean the the atlantic ocean and he did all of this first the first person ever to do this alone to sail around the world solo joshua slocum came back to boston in massachusetts in 1898 and he had so many incredible teachings things to say insights of of what it takes to sail around the world by yourself. … So I'm excited about Jesus. I want to preach about Jesus today from Matthew chapter 14, verses 22 through 35. First Bible story that I ever preached for our last sermon in the series, That's What I Thought. Tell your neighbor, that's what I thought. I say this is the last one. I think it's the last one. If the Lord wants me to keep going, I will. but my plan is today to take some of the things we've been preaching about and minister them to your heart. Welcome to all of our locations. Put it in the comment on YouTube. That's what I thought. This is our final installment. Yeah, this is the first Bible story I ever preached, so I always try to preach it at least once a year just to check in and see how dumb I was the last time I preached it or what new thing God will show me. Glad you're here today. Welcome. Welcome to the presence of God. Welcome to a new beginning. Welcome to a space where grace reigns supreme and where Jesus is Lord and King. Welcome to a place where you can hear his word. …

I didn't know I could do that. I want to leap into this lesson tonight by sharing a thought that is credited to the 7th century Christian monk and scholar known as Maximus the Confessor. And Maximus says this. He says Christianity is an entirely new way of being human. He argues it is alignment with God's divine assignment. He argues that humanity as God intended is an expression of the original intent of God. …
