… and that is if you don't know your Bible you're going to get sucked up into this stuff Matthew's gospel warns us now as he Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives the disciples came to him privately saying tell us when will these things be he was speaking about the end of the age and the destruction of the temple and all that stuff he says tell us when when would they said when would these things be and what will be the sign of your coming? And three-part question, and the end of the age or the end of the world. And Jesus answered and said to them, number one, take heed that no one deceives you. Wow. For many will come in my name saying, I am the Christ or I'm the Messiah and will deceive many. Verse 24, for false Christ and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders that is demonic, miraculous things? If possible, even the elect or deceiving even the very elect, which means, again, I always tell you guys, take the word if and hug it. Give it a big hug because that means it's impossible for the elect to be deceived. But the deception is going to be so bad that the only ones who are not going to be deceived are God's elect. …
… assuredly I say to you not one stone shall be left here upon another that shall not be thrown down. Now as he sat on the Mount of Olives verse 3 the disciples came to him privately saying tell us when will these things be and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age. they ask him two specifically pointed questions. When are you coming back? Because he had told them he was going to go away, but he was coming back. And they asked him also, what will be the indicators of when you're going to come back and what the end of time is going to be? And he gives them specific deals. I want to walk through here because I want you to see that these are the last days. Go ahead. Tell your neighbor, you ain't got much time. Y'all have said like y'all really believed it. That was a little weak. I need y'all to have a little attitude on that. …
… They go to the Mount of Olives. And on the Mount of Olives, they say, tell us, when will these things happen, Jesus? What will be the sign of your coming and the end of the age? Now, we often read that as one question. Well, when will these things happen, the destruction of the temple? What will be the sign of your coming, the end of the age? But actually there are three questions here. When will these things happen is the first one. And this relates to the destruction of the temple. And then the second is, what will be the sign of your coming, your returning, and the end of the age? That's really almost two questions there. So the first question again had to do with the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem. And as I noted, that happened in AD 70, the first Jewish revolt. And during the revolt, there's one image I think we have of the burning of the temple and of the destruction of the city. …
… the disciples come to Jesus. They're sitting on the Mount of Olives and he comes to Jesus. They come to Jesus and ask him, tell us when will these things be? The end times, tell us when will these things be? And what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age? Jesus, tell us. We don't understand. What is this going to look like? What do we need to do? Where are you going to be in all this? And then Jesus proceeds to answer their questions in chapter 24, chapter 25. But then in chapter 26, spoiler alert for tomorrow, Jesus tells them, for you know that after two days is the Passover and the son of man will be delivered up to be crucified. So this is just moments before the cross. This is days before Jesus does what he came to do. And here he is speaking about what the kingdom of heaven coming will look like. And I love it. …
… Let me show you that, Matthew 24. Matthew chapter 24 and verse 3. The disciples have come to Jesus, and they ask Him this very pertinent question, verse 3, Matthew 24, tell us when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming and the end of the age? We want to know about the end. We want to know about the kingdom. We want to know about Your return. When will it happen, and what will be the sign? How do we know we're getting near your setting up your kingdom? And Jesus answered in verse 4 and said to them, See to it that no one misleads you, for many will come in My name saying, I am the Christ, and will mislead many. The first sign that we're getting to the end is a sign of deception, deception. Not just one antichrist, many false prophets, many false Christs, misleading many. The first sign that our Lord identifies of the end is massive global deception, deception. …
… Truly I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down. As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately saying, tell us when will these things be and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age? And Jesus answered them, see that no one leads you astray for many will come in my name saying I am the Christ and they will lead many astray and you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed for this must take place but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and the kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains. Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. …
